I am almost closed on my first resale contract, SSR. Planning to do a decent extended family stay late Jan-early Feb, nine days , 8 nights. It will be my mother(over 60), my daughter(8), my sister and her 2 daughters(19 and 4). Depending on availability I want to try to do a split stay with 3 nights at 2 separate studios-and 5 nights in a 2 BR. If I can find 2 studios at 2 diff monorail resorts for a few days I want to do that, then transfer to a 2BR either SSR(most likely won't have a problem) or possibly AKL if it's available. The question is will I have a better chance getting the studios at any of the four MK resorts(BLT, Poly,WL, possibly GF-not likely) at the beginning of our stay(Tuesday arrival) or the end of the stay(Friday check in). And how hard do u think this going to be. I want everyone to enjoy themselves and do some family stuff together, but I also want to allow my sister and her girls enjoy some time to themselves as well, also I can get to see several resorts in one turn. I also have worked out many different point allocations for all of these options, so I know we can do it.

IMHO, you will have a better chance of the MK resorts at the end of Jan than at the beginning of Feb.

While a split stay can make a longer vacation seem like 2 vacations, shorter ones tend to take away from being on vacation. Checking in, waiting for your room to be ready, unpacking, reporting room issues (if any) then a couple of days later, packing and checking out before 11 AM, going to the new resort, checking in, waiting for the room to be ready, unpacking, reporting room issues (if any).

I would feel like I was constantly in flux. Having 2 studios would be a double flux.

End of January is a low to moderate DVC demand time, and Feb 1 to the Thursday before Presidents Day is one of the lowest, if not the lowest, DVC demand time of the year. You should not have a problem getting two studios or a 2BR at any of the following as long as you are able to reserve at 7 months out: BLT lake view, Poly (studios and bungalows), VWL, BWV pool/garden view, AKV standard and savanna view, OKW and SSR. At VGF, 2BRs will be open but not likely the studios. You will also have a decent chance for BLT theme park view and possibly BCV, with chances for studios for those being higher during your early February time.

Also, in doing your point allocations which include a potential stay at SSR, I assume you are using the new point charts that will be effective January 1, 2017, when SSR divides into standard and preferred rooms with the standard rooms having lower point requireiments, and the preferred having higher point requirements, than the point charts show for all years before 2017.

Yes, I have looked at point charts using 2017, and used the conservative options to what may be available, I know it's unlikely to get value at AKL, and which views are more likely or less likely to be available. We are looking at going Jan24-Feb 1st or 2nd so last week of January, but midweek to midweek. I am asking for everyone's thoughts, because I'm not 100% decided if we will do split or not, I think we are all aware of the challenges of moving and stuff, the reason for 2 separate studios for part of the week is to allow my sister and her girls to really have some time for themselves, and still do some of the time together, our younger girls love spending time together. My sister has never really been able financially do any kind of vacation for her kids. I have my daughter and an older son(not going on this girls only trip) that have done many different vacations with me, including Disney. If it weren't for me making this happen they wouldn't be going this time. So I'm trying to give them a special vacation, as my Christmas present to them. My sister is not looking to spend every minute at the parks, while The girls and I will probably spend a lot of time, my mother will be cool to chill at the resort( pool if it happens to be over 70). And I'm good with just letting Disney move the luggage for us.

It's great to hear that I have good chance of getting two studios for some of this trip, and good possibility of at least one monorail resort. I'm crossing my fingers, and I'll be ready on June 24??? Right, to book for check in Jan 24?

Well, I would try for non switch stay, and stay at whatever I can get at AKV, probably Kidani.
