I read here last year that someone suggested the Percy Jackson series for this age and my 10 year old daughter has just finished the whole series. She loved it! Now she's trying to find something else to read and I'm hoping for some more suggestions!?!

She's read the Harry Potter series also. I think she's too young to read Twilight (my 14 year old loves this one!).

Can someone give us some suggestions to check out? We would be very gratefull!!!!

Ann Rinaldi writes historical fiction from a tween girl perspective. They are really good, and follow young girls through major historical events, like the Salem witch trials, Paul Revere's ride, etc. Honestly, I've read some of the books in recent years and still find them good. My sister-in-law read a couple for the first time as an adult and also enjoyed them.

Not a series, but my daughter LOVES books by Haddix- Found was the first one she read.
But then she read them all.
(and she normally isn't a reader)

Both of my daughters have LOVED the Dear America Series (by Rinaldi) as well as the American Girl Series. The bonus is that both series' are AR books also!

When I was about 10 years old I got the entire collection of the Little House on the Prairie series. I don't know if kids are into those kind of books now but I could never put them down when I was a kid (I wish I was as into reading now as I was then!).

MY DD seems to have similar taste to your DD (good books but not necesaily aimed at girls I am noticing). DD just turned 13 but I think she had read at least some of each of these series' (what was out) by 10 (except the Benedict society books but very much on the level of the books your dd is reading--we just didn't know about them until a year ago). The bolded ones are a little higher reading level and may be too much. Some of her other favourites:

Septimus Heap series by Angie Sage

Benedict Society books by Trenton Lee

The Dark is Rising series by Susan Cooper

Inkheart Trilogy by Cornelia Funke

The Blue Sword and The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley (and pretty much every other young adult book by McKinley)

A Wrinkle in Time series by Madeline L'Engle

The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paoloni

The Pit Dragon Trilogy by Jane Yolen

The Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder

The Anne of Green Gables series by Lucy Maud Montgomery

The Fire Within series by Chris D'Lacey

Chronicals of Narnia by C. S. Lewis

Maximum Ride series by James Patterson

I have a 10 year old DS...he loves the Pet Trouble series. They are a fun, quick easy read for him...but he LOVES animals (especially dogs!)

He's read the Peter and the Starcatcher series and loved those, and he also likes "The name of this book is secret" and the other books in that series.

He has to read a Newberry award winner for his next book report, so he's currently reading Sounder. He loves it!!!

My 10 year old niece likes the Jack Stalwart series. I bought a few for my DS, but he hasn't gotten to them yet.

Not a series, but my daughter LOVES books by Haddix- Found was the first one she read.

Margaret Peterson Haddix is my DS14's favorite author. He LOVED the Shadow Children series. He said that they are the best books he's ever read! (He read them around sixth grade...)

Just have to get a bit of Disney in here :)

How about the Kingdom Keepers series by Ridley Pearson? The first two books are out and the third is scheduled to be released in April.

Has she read the Little House on the Prairie series yet? I always loved those when I was around her age. My 9 year old daughter loves them, as well!! You can get the 9 book series for under $40 on amazon.

I was going to suggest the Dear America series. We have the Dear Canada series here.
DD went through them really fast so I always took them out from the library. And when she finished up all of those she started getting all of the Dear Americas out of her school library.
She just absolutely LOVED all of them. There is a Dear America website where you can read about them, and order them as well.

I am an elementary school librarian and have a 10yo daughter. I think all of the suggestions so far have been great. I would also like to add the Ember series (The City of Ember, The People of Sparks, The Prophet of Yonwood, and The Diamond of Darkhold) by Jeanne DuPrau. Other popular books with the girls at my school are the Vet Volunteer Series books by Laurie Halse Anderson. I personally love "Rules" by Cynthia Lord.

She's a good reader if she's read all of the Harry Potter books! DH and I just finished some Young Adult books by Suzanne Collins-- The Hunger Games and Catching Fire-- I highly recommend them--great adventure/love stories (appropriate). The third one in the series is coming out this fall.

My daughter devoured the E.D. Baker books (Frog Princess) and the Emily Windsnap series about a girl who is a mermaid.

When I completed the Harry Potter series the following were recommended to me...to fill the void:) :

Artemis Fowl series
Charlie Bone Series
and, of course, Percy Jackson which she has already read.

Oh, also Sister's Grimm. All of them are that Fantasy fiction type novel. I must say that though I enjoy Sister's Grimm...I am not enamored with it (I am also 42 not 10, though).

I enjoyed Artemis Fowl (some more than others). I LOVE Charlie Bone...very good...I'm just waiting for the next book.

My dd (who does NOT like those types of books) does love the Little House on the Prairie series and the Dear America series.

If you can find them, I LOVED reading the Baby-Sitters Club books (by Ann M. Martin) when I was about that age (15+ years ago). However, I think they may be out of print because I looked through our local bookstores to fill in the missing books I didn't have already (in the event my husband & I have a daughter one day), and I haven't been able to find them. You may be able to track them down at libraries and/or Ebay.

I also loved the Little House on the Prairie books and Anne of Green Gables series and American Girls books. There are also some cute books by Beverly Lewis (I think the series is called SummerHill Secrets, or something along those lines). Beverly Cleary's books (particularly about Ramona) were also fun to read.
