We plan on taking the auto train and want to stay off site for 1 night. I'm not sure how well we are all going to sleep on the train so I want 1 day/night for us to just relax before hitting the parks. Since we are staying at the Contemporary, it just made more financial sense to stay somewhere cheap for a night.

Our plan is check into cheaper hotel, nap or let the kids swim in the pool. Then that night head to either downtown Disney, the boardwalk area, or just explore some resorts. Go back to hotel and get a good night's sleep. Check out of hotel super early and head to the Contemporary. I know our room won't be ready but we can get our tickets and head straight to the magic kingdom. This way we get a full park day on our first day. And it's cheaper than paying close to 500 for the room and the dining plan for everyone for one extra night.

So what are some decent, reasonable places to stay off site? We're looking to spend under $100

Hotel Plaza Blvd. sometimes has some deals, and it's close to Downtown Disney. Just past that is also the Palm Parkway/Lake St area, which usually has hotels with deals under $100. Of course, when you are travelling will impact pricing.

Having taken the AutoTrain, I think your idea is a sound one. Have fun!
