Suggestion: All Around Lens/canon Eos?

He needs one-do-it-all lens.

Appreciate any feedback. :thumbsup2

Then sell the Canon and get a Nikon dSLR with the 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED-IF AF-S VR DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens. Thats about as close as you'll come. High quality lens with Vibration Reduction, the f/3.5 at 18mm is fast for a super zoom, the 5.6 at the 200mm is slightly faster than other lenses in the category. It is a DX lens and can't be used on a film slr or, if Nikon ever comes out with one, a FF dSLR.

But again as others have mentioned you wont find the one-do-it-all-lens. That type of lens would probably be an 18-300 with IS/VR and f/1.8 or 2.8 at all focal lengths. Problem is, this lens would be about 10 inches long and probably weigh about 8 or 9 pounds and cost about $3000.

Rumor has been going around for a while that Canon is to release an 18-125 or 18-135.

But the one of the benefits of SLR's is the ability to change lenses. Its nice to have a "walk around" lens in the range of 18-200 or somewhere in between, but those 70-200 f/2.8 with IS/VR that Canon and Nikon make are SWEEEET lenses. And then you have the 17-55 f/2.8 wide angle lenses. And that very inexpensive 50mm f/1.8. And we haven't even talked about macro lenses (Tamron's 90mm f/2.8 and Nikon's 105mm f/2.8 with VR, Canon 100mm f/2.8) and hundreds of other possibilities.

I'm thinking about getting Sigma's 28mm f/1.8 next year for the indoor Disney rides, Spectomagic and the nighttime holiday parades. Bump your ISO up to 1600 and have your aperture set at f/1.8 and you'll get some pretty good shutter speeds without having to use a flash. That wide of an angle is good (the 50mm is juuuuust a bit to tight).

Just my $0.05 (adjusting for inflation and rising cost of living)

Never mind a tripod or monopod, you'll need a trailer to carry that bad boy around. :rotfl2: :lmao:
