Sudden scary thought about BCV in Jan.

Question for those that frequent BCV on a regular basis:

Does SAB pool usually close for refurbishment during the early part of January?

I considered us very fortunate to be able to book BCV for Jan. 4-7 but then I recalled a nightmare scenario that we had the only other time that we stayed at the non-DVC side of BC. We arrived on Jan. 3 and the pool closed the next day for its annual refurbishment. We did not know that it was going to be closing and it had not occured to me to ask. We moved to the POly the next day.

We have 3 kids under 11 so it would be a true crisis if SAB were to be closed. The Jan. refurbishment schedule is not yet available. Can anyone tell me the odds of the pool being closed based on past experience?

Thanks!!

This happened to me a couple years ago, but I think it was the slide and maybe the lazy river portion that was closed. I think even if they do rehab the pool at BC, it would only be portions at a time. So you would still be able to enjoy some of the pool, HTH.

We can usually swim in Jan. w/o a problem. 5 years ago it was really cold and we were in heavy coats with no swimming at all. January weather is "ify" but it seems to be warmish more often than it is coldish. (now watch it be
30 degrees this Jan., LOL)

The pool was opened this past January during the marathon weekend. We ate at B&C and saw people swimming. It was hot this year...86 degrees. '06 was a bit cooler than that (on some days). Warmer enough this year to swim for sure! '06 in Feb. it was soooo cold that we decided to take DVC's tour to keep warm. The rest is history LOL.

I hope the pool is open for you!

If the pool is closed, you can just take the boat across the lake and swim at the BWV.

So is it more often than not swimming weather in Jan.? I have often wondered since we were there two Christmases ago and it was FREEZING... Was this abnormal? We were in complete shock.

I'm just hoping it's not too cold MLK weekend. My soon to be kindergartener is so excited to be going to BCV(wants to get a kitchen sink at B&C), since he watched that Samantha Brown on Great Hotels.

Wasn't SAB or BWV main pool closed last year during January. I know there was a bunch of snorting about the main pool being closed at VWL in January.

We have been to WDW 5 times in Jan. and the weather has been generally decent. We missed Jan. of 07 due to a wedding (but made up for it with trips in Sept. and Dec.). One year is was incredibly freezing and we were miserable. The other years we have worn shorts for most of the trip, occassional jeans and jacket at night. We have been able to go to a water park in most Januarys. As long as the air temp is at least in the upper 60s, I will let the kids get in the pools.

We like January for the slower pace, less crowds, and early park hours but the unpredictable weather can be an issue.

I am hoping that SAB wont be closed!

We will see you at the BCV!! We will be there MLK weekend as well. Can't wait!! lol

We were there the week of the marathon (Jan 9) 2 years ago and swam in SAB every single afternoon. It was great because we had the entire pool to ourselves most days! However, I will tell you, when we got out of the pool it was very chilly. But if you can stand that, it will be great fun! I would maybe call the resort itself to find out if there will be a rehab then? Good luck and enjoy that awesome pool!

I was at BCV this past January and SAB was fully open and being used by people.

We were there for 10 days this past January and our kids swam everyday. The year before they only swam a couple times because it was chilly. :cheer2:
