Such a Big Problem

I just have a big problem. My DD13 is playing in a softball tournament and staying off site with her team (Her uncle is the coach). Our family is staying on-site and using ME. We are all flying as a family and then her coach will be picking her up later. They fly in 4 hours later than us. I just don't know if it is ok for my DD to go to the resort on ME with us and wait. Can I pay for an extra ticket or is there any way to make this work. Will I have to take a taxi with her just because she will be at the resort for 4 hours?:confused3 :confused3

i'm not sure i follow your exact problem.

she can take DME or she can't? she can if and only if she's on your reservation. if you've booked a package, you'd have to buy tickets/dining plan for her as everyone else has. DDP would be a problem, but the ticket thing can be worked around to some extent.

then is your question what to do once she's at the resort to get her offsite? that's in your hands. taxi or whatever.

I think bradk is on the right track.

The big question is, can you put your daughter on your room reservation? I'm talking in-name-only, I know she won't be staying with you. I (and bradk) ask this because she can't take DME unless she's named on the reservation.

Hopefully, you booked room-only and not a package, and hopefully your daughter wouldn't put you guys over the people-per-room limit.

If you booked a package, everyone on the reservation has to have the same entitlements. SO if you bought the DDP, if you put your daughter on the reservation then you'd have to buy the DDP for her, too, and that would make it one very expensive DME ride!

If you are on a package but NOT buying the DDP, hopefully you are more than 45 days from your trip. As long as you are before that deadline, you can "downgrade" whatever tickets you ordered to one-day base tickets and then individually upgrade the tickets of the "real" people in your room after you arrive ... on second thought, that would be too expensive, too, as a one-day ticket for her would be in the neighborhood of $70, still more expensive than a taxi.

IF she would fit in your room, and IF you have a package reserved, and IF it's not past the 45 day mark, would you consider changing to a room-only reservation? That way, you COULD add her without adding any expense.

Let's say none of the above works ....

Mears will not take reservations for or sell advance tickets for a bus ride to a WDW owned-and-operated resort. But at the airport itself, you can walk up to the Mears counter and buy a ticket (one person on Mears would be cheaper than a taxi)., and it is quite likely she will be transported on a DME bus, anyway! The tricky part here ... and one that I have no knowledge of ... would be before you actually buy the ticket to find out if it can be arranged for her to be on YOUR bus. That would be the key.

Complicated enough???

Thanks for the help but it is still a problem. We are already a family of four not counting her. We are staying at the CBR and that is the max you can have in a room. That is why we agreed to let her stay with the team. Which is what she wanted but we had some thought about our 13 yo being away from us. The team is paying for everything they do out of sponsor money so I didn't even have to buy her a ticket or anything. Oh this sounded much eaiser when we made these plans now it is so confusing.

Well, can one of you just wait the four hours and then take DME after you hand her off.

Yeh ... it all becomes that simple now. No need for confusion. Your 3 options:
  • do what Carol suggested/asked, one of you wait with her at the airport until her party arrives, and then you take DME to CBR.
  • one of you take her in a taxi to CBR with you, to wait there instead of waiting at the airport.
  • splurge on a car service or large rental car for all of you.

If you are not heading off to the parks for the day, hanging around the Orlando airport isn't too bad.

Alternatively you can always do a 1 day rental car from Dollar...they allow pick up at MCO and drop off at DTD without an extra charge. The DTD office is at the Grosvenor which is right across the street from the DTD Marketplace bus stop...so you could get the rental car for some or all of you, drive to CBR, takr DD to her team later in the day and then return the car to the Grosvenor (and either take the bus back to your hotel or the parks or have them drop you off at your hotel). Try using the KISS promo code or corp ID oi1054 for cheaper rates and it would be less than a taxi from MCO plus you would be able to go by the grocery store, see DD's hotel, etc.

Thanks for the help. I can't imagine staying at the airport for 4 hours. Does anyone know how much a taxi is from MCO to CBR? I think that might be our best bet. I will try a rental car too.
