Success with renting points?

Rented many times in the past. Won't anymore as the price per point from most owners has made it far less of a deal than it used to be. If you can find point for $14 or under, awesome. Most I see are in the $16-$17 range, and even higher for the "premium" resorts.

But even at those prices, doesn't it still come out cheaper than booking a cash reservation through Disney? I'm sure its dependent on time of year, room type, etc., but I recall when we went to Aulani, to book directly with the resort was more than double what we paid on our point rental, which was something like $15 or $16 per point at the time if memory serves.

We have done it a good number of times and have had great times. We were able to snag some 'cheap' points that someone wanted to rent out either last minute or just needed to create some cash flow. The lowest we have purchased points for is $9 per point. Obviously this usually means that they are almost expiring so planning ahead is tough, but this is what we have done. Stayed at the Poly, Wilderness Lodge and BLT on points. We tend to use our preferred TA who gets some really good rates and we can plan a little further out.
