Substitutions

Hi all -- we're going to Disney during free dining!! First time for free dining, but not first on the dining plan. My question is about substitutions. We plan to go to Pizza Planet for lunch on our HS day...I don't like salads, so would I be able to get the pizza combo and sub apples for the salad or maybe order the pizza, a side and a drink? And for my 2nd question...also about subbing. We have reservations for Sci Fi later that evening. I'd love to eat a burger there (my fav. thing to get there) for my meal, but I'd also love onion rings...do they allow you to sub them out for fries or would I have to just order an appetizer of them like I've done in the past? Also, wondering if they still allow milkshakes as your non-alcholic beverage on the free dining plan.

Welcome to the DISboards!

I'm just making guesses here as I have not tried to do this. I think you would have no trouble substituting apple slices for mixed green salad with your pizza because the apple slices are a lower cost than the salad on the menu. With that same reasoning, since the onion rings are 6.99 I doubt there is any way you could sub them for the fries. The best you might hope for would be to pay to upgrade as we can do at some restaurants around home. The milk shake is listed as a Specialty Drink. I know that the lemonaide with the tinkerbell straw that was a Specialty Drink at Akerhaus (Norway) cost something like 6.95 out of pocket for us in May.

yes, on the apple slices, no, on the onion rings. They will not allow you to sub an item that costs more for the cheaper item that comes with the meal. Some places do allow smoothies or milkshakes for the dining plan beverage...others will let you get a milkshake as your dessert. Some places that have allowed us to get milkshakes & smoothies were The Wave and LeCellier. I've seen reports of other places that allowed this also so your best bet is to ask at every table service restaurant.

Sci-Fi will allow you to get a milkshake in place of a soft drink, on the dining plan.

After you finish your milkshake, though, you have to get water. Unless, of course, you want to pay out of pocket, for a drink.

That was our experience when we were there, at least.

Have a happy trip!
