Substitutions for CS side dishes?

I am wondering if you buy a combo meal at a CS place if you can substitute a different side from the one(s) listed. Specifically, I am looking for a place to eat CS at DHS and the only one that appeals to my family is Fairfax Fare. However, their combo meals come with baked beans and cole slaw and DS15 and I don't eat baked beans OR cole slaw! We will be on the QSDP, but I think the question would still apply if we were paying OOP. They don't have much on their menu but they do list apple slices and baby carrots with their kids' menu, and I would be willing to eat these if I have to. Will we be able to substitute some other side, or should we just resign ourselves to going somewhere else and eating yet one more cheeseburger? TIA,

There's nothing written in stone regarding this. We've had no problems in the past asking for different sides. I'm sure that they will work with you. While I can't speak for whomever is working when you're there, I'm sure they'll do their best to provide you with substitutions.

Regarding your cheeseburger comment -- please don't think that the CS places are all about hamburgers and dogs. DH and I ate the QSDP for 7 days and only once had a burger and a dog because that's what we wanted. Take a look at allears.net for the menus. You'll find a great many choices!

Anyone else have any experience with this? Any other picky eaters out there?;)

We had bad luck trying to sub the baked beans at Flame Tree in AK. My DF wanted to sub them for fries (which I believe were on the menu...I forget) but the CM refused, but he said she wasn't in the best of moods, so that may have been it.

Several other times on the trip we were able to substitute items without a problem, so this was just a one time thing for us. If you get a friendlier CM you shouldn't have a problem.

Fairfax Fare isn't actually a restaurant, is it? Just a kiosk, I think, like the Outpost at MK.

By the way, what's with the "yet one more cheeseburger" comment? I only had one burger on my 8-day trip and that was because I was too tired to walk the extra hundred yard from Pecos Bill's to Columbia Harbour House.

my DD (age 20 last trip) generally had good luck subbing the kids meal carrot sticks or the apple slices instead of fries...she's not that into fries so usually asked for the kids' meal sides instead of fries. At CS in MagicKingdom & DHS she was able to do that. However, Flame Tree would not allow any subs on the beans & cole slaw...if you wanted fries you had to pay OOP or use a snack credit. The castmember at Flame Tree (who was very smiley & helpful, by the way) explained they could only sub an equal or lesser item and the fries cost more than the beans or cole slaw. Which makes sense, I guess. Especially when DD was trading the adult-sized fries for the tiny kids meal subs (those apple slices or carrot sticks packages are a very small serving...like 4 small apple slices or 5-6 very small baby carrots.)

DH & I have not had a burger or hot dog at counter service in Disney for many, many trips...lots of other choices readily available in all the parks & resorts.

you can also order the main item and not the combo. Disney does not list this on the menu, but we often order the main item without any sides.

At Flame Tree, the baked beans are in this tiny cup, not an equitable change out to get fries instead. I believe that is why they dn't allow it
