Substitute CS dessert for a side item

We (2 adults and 2 children) on DDP are going to Cosmic Rays for an earlier lunch. Planning on ordering 2 adult 1/2 Chkn & Ribs to share. Thinking the kids could use their credits for an early dinner at POP.

Could we substitute our desserts for fries or fruit? The fries were the same price as the desserts?

Thanks!!

I have been allowed to do this a couple of times. At Sunshine Seasons we got a side of bean salad instead of dessert - I asked the cashier and he said no problem. At PVH we declined dessert when ordering and the cashier said we could get fries (or a side salad, I think) instead. I don't think there's an official policy on it - probably depends on the location and even the CM you get. HTH:goodvibes

ETA: I think the fruit sub shouldn't be a problem as I think that's what they offer for guests who can't have dessert for dietary reasons.

I figured as much that it would be cast member specific. Doesn't hurt to ask, which I will be when we get there in 16 days!! :cool1:

I am glad to hear above poster was able to do this. As WDW is STRICT with this policy, no is the answer to your question.

Fruit yes, but a side, no no and no is what is told over and over again.
My suspision is the above poster got a new CM that wasn't clued in to how the DDP works and therefore gave the sustitution.

If you read the sticky thread at the top about the dining plan it talks about substituting, what can and can't be.

So check that thread out, and don't count on being able to do it for a side item. A piece of fruit (if available) or a bottle of water yes.

Sorry if I gave bum info - I didn't realize there was an official policy on this for CS (I know the rules are strict with TS credits) and I'd read of others getting subs. At PVH we weren't even asking for anything in exchange, just flat out turning down the dessert and the CM offered up alternatives.:goodvibes

. . . The fries were the same price as the desserts? . . .

1) Just because they are the same retail, the profit is not the same.
2) Fries are typically the most profitable food at an eatery.
3) Thus, do not expect to sub fries for a dessert.

NOTE: Next to soda (and WDW does not even pay for soda), fries are the
profit center for fast food eateries.

Ahhh...but wouldn't it be more prudent to trade a low-margin dessert for a cheaper-to-produce side of fries? :lmao:

Not arguing because I'm a bureaucrat who WRITES the rules in my dealings so I understand where Disney is coming from, just poking a big fat hole in your logic. :cutie:

1) One might think so.
2) But, as most companies, costs are allocated.
3) The way WDW allocated overhead, cheap items carry big burdens.
4) Thus, they artificially are more expensive than necessary.
5) So, desserts (on paper) are the same cost.

NOTE: Yes, complicated, but all companies place burden
differently. And, each restaurant manager is responsible for
his/her profit margins. That is why some eateries are more
relaxed on DDP rules than others.
