My 2 year old son has a stye in his eye. It started out very small and seemed to be going away. We were at the doctor for something else and I asked about his eye and the doctor said it was a stye and to put a warm washcloth on it for 10 minutes a few times a day.

We've been doing this every day for a week and while I was gone in NYC this past weekend, it seems to have gotten bigger. It doesn't seem to be bothering him but I'm just wondering how long it's supposed to stick around. Is there anything else I can be doing for it? Thanks all.

I don't know how long it is supposed to last..but DD got eye drops for hers. We also got a note that it wasn't contagious for any things she was scheduled to do that week.

I had this. It lasted for a while. I put alot of warm wash clothes on it, that seemed to help the swelling go down.

I've also used warm tea bags on mine... Just a plain old tea bag (Lipton, etc...) that I dunked in warm water. (IMHO the warmer the water the better!) My styes haven't ever swelled up - but I've always known when I was getting them because of the twinge that I would feel on my eyelid...

Lots have said the tea bag idea is an old wives tale - but it's always worked for me!

My niece used to get them quite frequently and we used lavender oil (kind of a holistic approach) and it would clear them up in a couple of days. We always caught them right at the beginning and that really seemed to help but you have to use a good quality oil. We just put it on her temples and under her eye but not where it would get into the eye.

My youngest had gotten 4 (3 in one eye and 1 on the other) of them about a year ago. They are a pain to get rid of. She sees a specialist and had all kind of medicines (sometimes 3 at a time) and alsmot had suurgery in Feb for 2 of them.

Good Luck, now a year later she has a large scar from the 2 on the bottom of her one eye but I am hoping that will go away with time. Now my poor little thing has pink eye this morning.

If his eye is "gunky", wash it with baby shampoo. And do the hot compresses more often, 3-4 times per day. This is what my DH, who is an optometrist, would prescribe without seeing it.

Thanks all. It's not gunky at all, just the stye on the lid. Still putting the warm washcloth on it 3-4 times a day, might be getting a little smaller.
