I have a crack between my baby toe and its neighbor. Its a typical summer crack that occurs each year. Right now it itches and throbs. What can I do? Band aids fall off!

Cracks like that between the toes that burn and itch are usually athlete's foot. Summertime is a prime time for it. Go to the drugstore and buy some over-the-counter medication for athlete's foot.

If it is indeed just a crack, you can tape the two toes together with first aid adhesive tape.

its not athlete's foot. I have done the whole treatment thing and checked with the doc who told me it itches from dry skin.

Then I would just find some lotion to put on it..:)

Zim's Crack Creme works great. It is a heavy lotion that I use after doing masonry or drywall work. I get these kinds of cracks in my hands after that kind of work.

We took our DD to a dermatologist years ago for cracks of this nature. She would get them under her toe and behind her earlobe.

The Dr. diagnosed eczema, and prescribed a cortisone cream (Westcort, if I recall correctly.)

I would suggest using mild soaps such as Dove or Purpose and using a cortisone cream on the crack. If you do so, I would not be surprised if your crack healed fairly quickly.

Good luck!

If you've already seen a doctor about it, what did he/she tell you to do about it?

Sometimes the DIS just isn't the place for every question or every answer. Know what I mean?

I second Crack Cream. And plain old vaseline is good too.

I get it on the back of my baby toes a few times a year. I just put a little tripple antibiotic ointment (Neosporin)but I buy the generic-on it and it heals within a few days.

the doctor told me to just leave it alone but It hurts way to much to ignore. I have been doing neosporin (sp) but it hasnt helped.

You need some steriod cream to heal it.

However after that you have to take care of it with keeping it from cracking again.
Have to use lotions religiously. A&D ointment is something I use when I don't have a steriod cream to heal.

I have no sage medical advice. I just think that the term "toe crack" is amusing.

Yes! I swear by A&D ointment. Love the stuff for when I get bad dry spots. It's what they told me to use when I got my tattoo, and I've used it ever since!

is this doc a dermatologist? If not I would get an appointment with one....and if your doc is, I would find a new one.

I've had toe cracks since I was a kid. They're annoying and painful, you've got it right babyB! Personally, I have weird shaped toes (sort of fat and permanently curled and folded over a bit). Any kind of fold of skin on your body will always be prone to bacteria/fungus/yeast, etc.

Personally, I don't do anything medical for them -- seems like way overkill for a harmless thing like that. And no way in hell would I go to a specialist and make them examine my stupid, curled toes :) The toe cracks heal on their own in a few days whether or not you put stuff on them, so why bother messing with them? :)

I have noticed over the years that I get them more when my feet are exposed to public places where there could be atheletes foot, fungus, etc. When I first went off to college, I had them really bad until I started wearing flip flops in the showers. Now they come back from time to time when I've been walking around at the pool a lot in the summer. It could also be that they're related to dry skin (chlorine can dry your skin) rather than fungus. You could try an athelet's foot creme alternated with vaseline or some really thick moisturizer if you want.

Other than that, just slap a bandaid on those suckers and don't worry about 'em! :lmao: Use a big bandaid and tape a couple of toes together if a small bandaid won't stay on.

I got this a few times when I was in FL and at first thought it was athlete's foot but none of the cremes worked.
I bought some heel creme, the kind that says it will repair the cracked heels and it worked like a charm. When I feel the sore area starting I put the cremem on right away and it heals within a few hours.

Are you using the neosporin ointment (or generic version) with pain relief (lidocaine)?

I love that stuff! One of the best products out there.. When I worked in a school cafeteria and had to wash pots and pans all day, my hands would crack so bad I just wanted to cry.. I tried everything - and nothing worked.. Finally I asked my pharmacist what to use and he said "Zim's Crack Creme".. Worked like a charm - and VERY quickly! :thumbsup2

My son used to get cracks between his toes when he was younger. Dr told him to keep the area as dry as possibly, walk around barefoot when possible so your feet don't sweat.
