trying to figure out if you bring home 1500 a week, what kind of salary are you making in a year?
what if you make 35,000 a yr, what do you take home a week with no deductions other than taxes?
How do I figure out what a yearly salary amounts to for a weekly take home pay?

multiply your weekly by 52

1500 x 52 = 78000

or divide to get annual into weekly:

35000/52 = 673

But, taxes will change this a lot. Those figures are without taxes.

It would CERTAINLY depend on your deductions (health insurance, 401K, taxes, Social Security etc..) but it would seem that to take home $1500 per week, you are talking about a salary very close to $100,000 per year. $1500 x 52 weeks = $78,000 and add on about 30% or so for "average" deductions.

I would guess that take home for a salary of $35,000 with only taxes taken out would be about $500 - $525 take home per week.

Just guesses!!!!

There's no way to tell without knowing something about the person's deductions. For example, I contribute significantly to my 401K-type plan, my kids' 529 plans, and I have a chunk deposited in a savings account. All of these things reduce my take home pay by over $1000/pay period. There's also insurance, union dues, and all the other deductions.

my husband is military and is going to retire in a few months. His checks don't have anything deducted except taxes.
Im trying to figure out what he would have to make a year at a new job to come close to bringing home the same pay as he does now.
he will be bringing home about 650 a week from his pension
he has two potentional job offers, one is starting at 48k a year, but is an hour-hour1/2 drive every day. The other is starting at 35k a year, but is 10 minutes from our house.
Thats why I trying to figure out how much you take home a week with no deductions but taxes.
I know he wont be bringing home the same 1500 a week, but i would like to get close to that with a new salary and his pension
I work part time, so my checks cover 401k,etc
thanks

I don't think there is anyway to accuratly knwo but assume that taxes will be about 25%. It will dpends on what he claims on his forms.

I don't know anything abour your family life and know even less about the job offers and the 13k difference between the 2 jobs is significant but the 90 min commute each way is a deal break/killer for me unless it's a job i LOVE and am making about $100k a year. I commute 45 mins now (via public transportation) and make quite a bit over 48k and can hardly handle it. I would LOVE a job closer to home and would gladly take a pay cut.

just something to consider.

Hopefully my math is right:

You want him to bring home 1500/week. he gets 650 pension. This leaves 850/week, you're wanting him to bring home, after taxes.

DH and I each have between 25-30% taken out of our checks for various things... So, I'll figure 30% to be safe.

850*52wks= 44200, after taxes.

44200/.7 = 63,143

(The .7 is for 70% that you get paid)

So.. if you get 30% of your paycheck taken in taxes/deductions... you would need to earn 63,143 to earn 850 per week after taxes.

If you make 35,000 a year, it's 673.00 per week.
In NJ the deductions are: (assuming single, 1 deduction).

Social Security 6.2% 41.73
Medicare Tax 1.45% 9.76
Federal Income Tax 76.00
NJ Income Tax 11.16
NJ Unemployment 6.22
NJ Family Leave .60

Total Deductions 145.47

Net Pay 527.53

It would be hard to tell you due to the fact each state has different tax laws. What he needs to do is ask both companies what his bring home pay will be. They should be able to tell him with no problems. I did this for my first job out of college. I told them what I had to earn week to suppost myself which I already knew was in the salary range for the position and they told me how much it would be then offered me $5000 more than what I was asking for. I guess they figured here is a dumb kid who needs all she can get. lol

Possibly more than that. Taxes tend to be pretty steep when you bring home $100,000 - so plan on 30% federal taxes, state taxes, deductions for insurances, 401k - I'd say if you are bringing home $1500 a week, you probably make close to $150k a year.

To figure your take home pay per week, you can use a site called www.paycheckcity.com You can alter witholdings there too to see what it would be if you changed your w4 etc.
HTH!!

it all really depends on your w/o rate. You'd have to be federal tax exempt to get close and have very low/no state tax rate.

Thanks for the link to the calculator. It was what I was looking for. I can play around with different salary's and it will tell me what my take home will be

Also is the pension tax free or do you have to pay taxes on it. If so then you need to make even more per week to cover the pension taxes.
