Stupid Quick Service question

Do you have to buy a package (room + tickets) to purchase the Quick Service dining option? We just have a room only booked and either (a) buy our tickets at the resort or (b) buy a few tickets at a time at our local Disney Store. Can you purchase the dining plan with a room only reservation?

You must purchase a package (room + minimum ticket requirement) to add dining, unless you are an AP holder or DVC member.

Not if the discount is not applicable to a package. Once you add the tickets and dining, it's no longer a room only reservation, it's a package.

The exceptions are very narrow. To get DDP you must have a package reservation unless you are a DVC member booking through member services. Annual passholders and guests eligible for the military room discount may book ticketless packages (they're still package reservations, but with no ticket purchase requirement). Another possible exception is an occasional offer of the DDP on reservations booked for Disney cast members. Otherwise, you must have a package with tickets to get a dining plan.

Depends on the exact discount, but I believe usually yes -- Typically, those discounts are not meant that you are limited to a room-only reservation. Disney prefers that you book a package generally. So typically, those discounts, in "room only" -- they mean that the *discount* only applies to the room-part of your reservation.

As a footnote, the qsdp is a very poor value generally speaking, so not sure why many people would want to add it to a reservation where it's not free dining.
