I have a question that may seem rather stupid...but since I have never been staying onsite and never used the dining plan I just don't know how this works.
I'll be in WDW in may and got free quick service dining with my package (booked through Disney UK since I'm from Germany).
Now...since I'll spend all day at the parks from opening until closing, I need more food/drinks than I'm entiteled to on the dining plan.
If I just want to grab some coffee or a soda and don't want this to be a snack credit on the dining plan (since I think that's a waste of money..I'll rather spend snack credits on more expensive items), do I just tell the person at the cash register that I want to have it charged to my roomkey? And if I want to have it as a snack credit tell them I want it to be taken off the dining plan credits?
Sound stupid but as I said, I don't want to waste credits for cheap stuff like plain coffee or bottled water. I'm totally new to the dining plan and on site stays so I'm realy kinda clueless :rolleyes1

Yes, you can do this, but make sure you make it clear to the CM that you want to actually charge for the item and not use a credit, and check the receipts to make sure they did it the way you want it done. This is one of the most-reported dining plan problems.

I also got a 150$ disney giftcard with my package...so I guess it might be best if I just use the giftcard or pay cash for extra food/drinks instead of using my kttw card? That way there won'T be any mix-ups with dining plan credits vs. paying ootp

When we were there in September we had no problems with this. When we got to the register they would ask if we were on the dining plan or if we wanted to use our snack/QS credit and we would just specify that we wanted it charged to our room. Everything showed up on the bill just fine.

I think you'll find yourself surprised, that you don't need that much more than is included in the plan. Meals tend to be quite large. Assuming you are traveling with others, you can often split meals in half. (Obviously doesn't work if you are traveling alone.)

Since they changed the QSDP to only 1 snack, I could see you wishing to supplement it a bit, but I'd be surprised if you found yourself spending tons of money outside of the plan.

Travelling solo, so splitting meals is not an option. I also get 2 snack credits since the QSDP booked through Disney UK still includes 2 snacks for 2012 :woohoo:
I also think that it will be plenty of food for a day, but bottled water/soda and the occasional cup of coffe will still be needed to keep me going on those long theme park days :thumbsup2 Since I saw so many great snack options here on the board I just think it's a waste of snack credits to spend them on small stuff/drinks

In that case --- If you're not careful, you could potentially find yourself with tons of extra unused snack credits at the end of your stay. So pace yourself. Especially if you use your mug for beverages when eating at the resort, and realizing you can get a bottled water as your "dessert" at QS, I still suspect you won't need to pay very much OOP.

I still wouldn't count on those two snack credits for the Brits. Waiting for somebody to report back on that.

Two snack credits for uk is being marketed by Disney travel company and WDW uk website as well as all travel operators quoting QSDP for 2012, I have done a lot of research and can't see how they can back out of this deal and it's still being quoted for bookings made today onwards. Will be at WDW in two weeks so will have definite confirmation then !!!!!

@disneyfanlincoln: please report back after your vacation :yay:
I also think that since the UK plan including 2 snack credits is all over the official disney website everyone booked via uk should get those 2 snacks. That info has been up on the website for too long to be a mistake made by disney.

Also one thing I realised while I was there, you get drinks with each meal....that goes a long way.

That said, I have a feeling because you are travelling solo, you will likely have to supplement as QSDP only covers 2 meals and 2 snacks a day. They've tightened up a little about what is considered a snack too.

I brought lots of extra snacks for my family of 4 because I was worried. what I eventually found out was that 4 snacks a day for our family was a LOT, especially over 10 days. plus, we shared a lot of CS meals so we could have CS breakfasts as well. I brought pretty much every last one of the goodies I packed home with me.
