stupid question about renting points

can someone wanting to rent points do so for a non dvc resort? like for the contemporary?

Short but sweet answer - you can rent points to stay at a non-dvc Disney property, but usually you will not save money this way. There is almost always a cheaper rate through Disney, a travel agent, etc. I would really only recommend renting points to stay at DVC. Have fun!
