Stupid hunters...They're gone!

The upside of them being at your property line is that they "should" be firing away from your property into the hunting property.

Jennasis, i hope the owner of the property gets in touch with you soon. granted, i'm not an attorney, just a former legal secretary, but he may be liable for the damage done to your shed, since the bullet came from his property. i would, in as friendly a manner as possible under the circumstances, let him know that i don't intend to put up with my property being damaged, my business being interrupted, my animals being scared and in danger, and my personal health being endangered. especially considering the size of the property, there's no reason, aside from pure laziness and spite, for these men to be so close to your property. it might be worth mentioning the possibility of his liability to him...this could solve your hunter problem, whether or not it turns out to be so. if i were the property owner (and i AM a property owner), i wouldn't want to take the chance i'd be held responsible for someone else's bonehead mistakes.
i hope today is the last time you ever see these morons.

I certainly wouldn't nor would I want my child to be taking riding lessons near where hunting is allowed!!! Do your students wear blaze orange this time of year? That is dangerous for the students and the horses. Wow I hope you tell the students and their parents. I'm sorry it is your business but it isn't safe.

as far as your neighbors like they say you can only control what you own and whether they are wrong or right it doesn't help if your dog or yourself are shot, I would keep everybody in if I saw or heard shooting.

I wouldn't mind someone hunting the land around me because I like my shrubs and garden but I would hope they were responsible hunters but unfortunately like in everything a few bad ones spoil it for everyone.

All the kids and parents who showed up were told about the hunting. In 7+ years this is the first time this has happened. I had the kids who came to ride their own horses (school was closed so they hung out pretty much all day) ride in my indoor arena on the other side of the property.

We cancel lessons during thunderstorms and 4th of July too. Pretty much anytime there might be unusual noise. In the barn and indoor arena, there wasn't any chance of anyone getting hit. It's on the other side of my property and shielded by my house, and three other outbuildings. The pasture, on the other hand is RIGHT there next to where the guys were shooting from.

I totally get your safety comment...which is why I cancelled lessons. Anyone who showed up were informed of the goings on and allowed to make their own call.

don't mean to sound nasty but so many people don't take it seriously! even with all the warnings every year people get shot because some dumb idiot shot not knowing what they were shooting at.

Glad to hear you are being so careful.

I agree. I personally would be army crawling on the floor in fear of a stray bullet coming through a window. I'm paranoid like that.

That's the problem with living out in the country - or in the mountains.. Won't be long until the shooting starts up here too - hunting season is rapidly approaching.. Sometimes it sounds like the bullets are right outside my door..

Personally I'm not a big fan of hunting as a "sport".. The folks up here do it because they need the food - since a large majority of the year-round residents are at poverty level or below..

I know I could never shoot an animal just for the "fun" of it.. :(

Are you sure there is no law in your area that states they can't shoot a firearm within a certain distance of a residence? I find that really strange - although some people just choose to ignore it anyhow..:sad2:

"We are so sorry sir...it was the youngin'. He ain't too good with the gun yet and hit the roof of yo shed."

As if that's a decent excuse? Hmmm. He's not good with a gun, so let's have him point it toward someone's HOUSE?

Would like to comment more, alot more, but will limit it to saying that those advocating honking, or letting dogs run through hunted property, or planting poison ivy, or interfering with hunting in any way, even 'on accident', is against the law here and may be in your states as well.

Christopher I never noticed where you were from before! If you are in the Clarion, Marienville area you definitely know all about hunting! My Family had a camp up there and I spent a lot of time there. Good to see it.
