Stupid Florence

We will be arriving on Sunday leaving on Friday for our Anniversary. Totally understand about the hurricane portion, my family have evacuated from Wilmington. I will spend my vacation worrying about their homes and if they will even be able to get home from the flooding.

Hope your friend is able to join you. If you see a couple in bright blue anniversary shirts on Tuesday that is us. If you could use a friend to do a ride with during the week let me know, will have maxpass.

Good thoughts for your family coming through without any property damage. It is so nerve wracking waiting it out. Happy Anniversary!!!

Oh my goodness, you guys need to find a new talent other than hurricane whisperer :) Hope all is well with your husband's family and he and your daughter are safe, warm and dry.

No kidding. I feel like I should start warning people of our travel plans so they can avoid where ever we're going. Last time DH went to NC there was a freak blizzard and he was stuck in Charlotte airport for 2 days. I recently went to DC and my plane was diverted from Ohare to Madison and I was stuck there for 12 hours.

So all of you should look at my signature and avoid going to Disney those times.

But they are closing the airport today for the remainder of the week at least, and when those flights have to be absorbed once the airport opens again getting out in a timely manner is tough.

So....IF her house is OK and she's willing to leave, and if she can get somewhere else, she can call the airlines and change that flight to a different airport. Plenty of people will cancel outright, so a change made early on is more likely to be successful. I'm sure her airport and airline has the notification that they can change or cancel flights without a fee right now, so she could think positively. Or she could likely call and get her flight NOW, if she's willing to leave entirely. All sorts of fee-free changes open up when there are actual storms heading to airports.

A great solo activity for me is the Animation Academy. You can enjoy this class as much, if not more, when you’re alone (no one to laugh at your drawing, for instance ).

Yep.

Ugh I'm soooo sorry! That bites. On the potential plus side, crowds might be lower since others may be canceling too due to Florence. We ended up stuck in wdw during Irma last year, and the insanely low crowds almost made it worth it.

I bet that was a nice unexpected surprise! (The crowds, not the hurricane - ha!)

What a bummer. No chance she got out before the storm? We will be there next week too and also celebrating a 50th! (my BF). We will be at the Party - all as pirates - my BF in a scooter, my 12 year old son probably looking surly (which will go with his outfit for a change). The weather is supposed to be beautiful and the crowds low so I think it will be a great week!

Happy Birthday to your BF!!!!! 1968 was an excellent year ;)

Looks like my BFF may be able to get out Monday - so now a half solo/half bestie trip for me...which I can totally handle!

We will be a steampunk Mad Hatter, Cheshire Cat, and hip hop White Rabbit - we’ll say hi if we see you surly pirates :)

Aww, that's too bad, but solo can be fun too. I hope you have a great birthday regardless!

I'm coming here to whine...

I had to cancel my original 50th birthday plans in Feb. because my mother ended up seriously ill in the hospital days before I was supposed to leave.

Huge plans - GCH, best friend of decades flying in, Napa Rose chef's counter, etc. etc. etc.

Okay, life goes on, priorities straight, reschedule for April. Mother's health declines early spring, decide to put off Birthday 2.0 until we know she is stable and healthy.

Looks for silver lining - could go for Halloween...I looooove Halloween.

Leaving tomorrow morning (spending a couple of days popping around LA before heading to GCH). Have every reservation I could want - scheduled everything 2 months ago - Napa Rose, BB Fantasmic! dinner, PtN package at Carthay, Plaza Inn breakfast, Lamplight Lounge, Storytellers last morning sendoff. Saturday through next Thursday is lined up to be an amazing vacation with the bonus of going to my first Halloween party!

Plot twist: My best friend lives in Charleston, SC. She in all likelihood won't be able to make it. Stupid Florence.

(Yes, I absolutely know we are talking about a severe, severe hurricane and I am by no means equating this disappointment to what people on the east coast are facing. The two aren't even on the same planet. I'm just bummed.)

It's really too late now to try and change my travel plans again.

So, if you see a middle-aged woman next week in a 50th birthday shirt all by herself, be extra nice and generous with the birthday shoutouts :)

For anyone who enjoys going to the parks solo, hit me up with your favorite activities!

(And anyone with family and friends in the affected areas have all of the good thoughts and energy we can give. We lived in Charleston for a decade, and while a truly beautiful place these catastrophic storms are hell to deal with even if you evacuate.)
Hope you have an AWESOME "50th" Birthday Celebration! :bday:ENJOY! Its all downhill from here, haha! :laughing:Actually not, having a great time" post 50"!!!:cheer2: Sorry that your friend was not able to join you, but hope that she is safe and sound. ::yes::Continued thoughts and prayers for those affected by Florence.

Just curious, how was your birthday trip and was your friend able to join later in the end?

You are sweet for asking! She did make it - a couple of days later than first planned but we still had a wonderful time. GCH was awesome as always. We had to shuffle a few things around and drop a couple of things but it still was great. I did spend some solo time there and I can't say that it was my favorite thing ever, but I made the best of it...like riding Guardians of the Galaxy 6X in a row. We made it to the first Halloween party and it was really very fun...and we looked super cute :) MHP.JPG

The best news of all was that Charleston was spared any real damage and that she, her house, and all her animals were AOK before she left to join me.

I'm so glad to see this update and see that your trip was a success! Riding Guardians 6x in a row is pretty much the best ever!

It really was! :)

(I had not visited since it was changed from ToT and I just could not imagine that I would like it better...I was wrong, so very, very wrong.)

Great to hear she was able to make it and that her house and loved ones all survived :) And that's what solo trips are all about, if you want to ride Guardians 6 x in a row, then just do it :)
