stupid EMH questions

ok, can you tell i have switched from "casual Dis junkey" mode into "i have to pay attention to the details now because we are planning a trip soon" mode.

i will be bugging you all for little details.

here are some questions i have about EMHs and things related to them.

if a park is listed for AM EMHs, they open one hour earlier than scheduled, correct? (so the hours posted on the DIS main page are the regular hours and if is orange and has one * next to it it actually opens an hour before the time listed. - do i have that right?!?!?)

if a park is listed for PM EMH's, they stay open for how many hours aftter the regularly scheduled closing time? (also assuming the hours posted on the DIS main page are the regular hours and if it is marked for PM EMHs i am to add so many hours to that time listed.)

am i reading the hours correctly for sept 28 and 29 that there are PM EMHs but no AM ones?

am i also reading the hours/schedule correctly in that even though there are PM EMHs on certain nights, that does not necessarily mean that they will have Spectro that night? (that seems stupid. to keep the park open for a couple of hours past regular closing, but not bother to put on Spectro?!?!?)

that's all for now, but i am sure i will have more later.

thanks
- lori

I'm not sure on your Spectro questions, or for specific dates, but you are correct in saying that the parks open 1 hour before the normal time for EMH guests. Also the evening EMH hours are for 3 hours after that park closes to non-EMH guests. And yes, you pretty much just add the 3 hours to the regularly listed closing time for that park.

Now, if they'd just release a statement about whether EMH's and MNSSHP can occur on the same night, I'd be in business! Apparently there is no EMH on 9/30, the night of the first MNSSHP. That doesn't bode well for my trip the first week of October, when there will be 3 MNSSHP occurences.

I realize the AM EMH is just that those who qualify for them just go in early.

How does it work at night? Do they close the park and then re-open to those with a special pass from the hotel or ...?

And now that I think of it, how does the AM EMH work? You just show your room key to get in early?

Yes, you show your room key and park tickets (if they're not included with your room key) and you get a wristband. I believe this is done at the gates in the mornings. For evening EMH, you need to be IN the park no earlier than 2 hours before closing, and go to one of several locations in that park to get wristbands. These locations are listed here: http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/earlyentry.htm. I believe you'd need the resort key at that time as well.

Once EMH hours arrive in the evening, regular guests can remain for a while to shop, etc., but can't ride the rides slated for EMH. EMH guests with wristbands have to show them to get on those rides.

I'm curious about this also... especially for Oct 2nd which is MNSSHP night but the "normal" evening EMH night for MGM. I know that any EMH nights normally at MK will not happen if it's MNSSHP that night. That's a given. But I'm wondering if MGM will end up being EMH night even though there is MNSSHP going on the same night at MK. I was able to get an ADR for primetime that night but the latest was 6pm. However, then the CM "checked" for me and said that is listed as EMH night at MGM however, primetime is still one of the restaurants closing at the regular closing time. We'll see... I HOPE that MNSSHP doesn't negate any and all EMH nights at all parks!

(ps. I noticed on the schedule Sept 30th should have been an EMH evening at Mk- but since there is MNSSHP- it changed to MORNING EMH at that park. So I am hoping they just change things around for MK EMH's but not the other parks! ??)

I have no idea how they handle AM emh since few times I've had need/want to use them I was never been asked to show room key and I have AP so it's not coded on tix.

Evening extra magic hours are handled by appox. 2 hrs before normal park closing you can go to various spots in the EMH park and get a wrist band after showing a room key. You can show up at park for emh after it has started and you still need to show room key and get braclet at turnstyle.

I'm so glad SOMEBODY else is wondering about this! I feel like I've taken a crazy pill, but I really plan on using EMH to its max this year, with a 2 YO DD who needs her afternoon naps at the Poly every day. Without EMH, we would really miss a lot of park time.

Based on what I've seen, though, for 9/30, when there's a MNSSHP, but no EMH anywhere, I'm not hopeful. But when I look at it from Disney's perspective, it doesn't make sense for them to offer EMH for free to resort guests at one park, while charging them and getting many of those same guests to happily pay for MNSSHP in MK on the same night.

I don't know how accurate this is but actually here:
http://intercot.com/infocentral/park/extramagic.asp

It shows that on Sept 30th instead of evening EMH it's morning EMH at MK the same day as the MNSSHP.

??

I'm with you on "going to be upset" if there are no evening EMH's during our trip because of MNSSHP. Our trip is shorter than I would like (going only while the kids are out of school for fall "break" which is really just a long weekend for them this year LOL) and if we have short hours with no evening EMH's at the parks because of MNSSHP- that's going to be a bummer. We REALLY enjoyed our last trip with evening EMH's- we prefer to sleep in and stay at the parks late rather than get up before dawn and have nothing to do until later in the night after the parks close. :(

Okay...I have a dumb question. Can you go in after the "regular" park closing when it's an evening magic hour night?

You're right. However, I only consider the evening EMH in my case. a) you get 3 hours instead of just 1, and b) we like to rest in the mornings! It looks like you agree with me on the rest thing. :rotfl:

I have never done any of the EM hours....morning or evening. For the evenings, I understand that there are only certain rides open. But...are the shops and restaurants open too? I would love to do the Epcot evening EMH, but really am just interested in strolling the WS at night....maybe taking in a drink (or two) along the way.....

Thanks for any info!
Sammy

Only select restaurants are open (for example, at MK EMH night, it was only Tony's and Pecos Bill's IIRC). Most shops are (at least in areas with open rides.

You can enter the park after closing with your resort ID - you'll get a wristband at the entrance.

I'm also trying to guess what the evening EMH will be for MK the first week in October. It looks like September's are all on Wednesdays. Would it be safe to guess that they would be on Wednesday in October assuming MNSSHP does not happen to be on a Wednesday? :confused3

No assumptions are safe in this case, since there is no precedent for EMH evenings and MNSSHP.

Thank you for your answers on EMH!!

I assume our Silver Pass is still acceptable since we will be staying at the POR this August.

EMH is probably great if you like to get up early and stay late and enjoy the parks totally packed during the day. We stayed offsite last week and went to MK on Saturday. Other than the ususal suspects, most rides were walk-ons or short waits all day. We walked on to POTC a number of times.

The name of the game is to visit a park the day after the scheduled EMH day.
