Stupic Question Alert, but I'm new. What are developer points?

Developer Points are points owned by Disney usually at SSR that a buyer gets, equal to the number of points purchased, to use between the time that they purchased and the date they are able to use their points. For example, we bought AKV Kidani Village, they don't open until May 09 so we got matching DP to use at SSR in the mean time. We also bought BLT and got matching DP's at SSR to use by 10/3/09. This was because BLT doesn't open until Sept 09. Now in the past they have offered double developer points and usable at any DVC not just SSR but that was quite a while ago. Hope this helps.

Here's my take.

Developer points are a inexpensive way for Disney to entice you into buying at their proprieties currently being marketed. They want you to buy new and not resale and DP are used to push you in that direction.

well that depends upon what you want.

BLT is not in resale market - yet!

also if you buy resale you might get a contract that doesn't have any points until 2010.

if you buy from DVC (AKV or BLT only) you get the dp, plus 2009 then next year you get 2010 points too.

so you could get 3 extra years with DVC than resales.

that say if you know you are NOT going to WDW in 2009 - the resales is definitely a better buy. they are selling AKV in resales.

this is no means a stupid question when DP first came out - was definitely confused.

Let me put it another way. Some people want to buy. They don't really know what they want, they just want it. DVD uses DPs to help you decide on the resorts currently being activity marketed. DPs also make it more acceptable for the buyer to put down money on a resort that isn't built yet and only exists as an artists conception. The DPs cost DVD next to nothing. Sometimes it can be a good deal for the buyer and sometimes not.
