Study~ Heavy social drinkers show brain damage

then something else must have caused my brain damage

Wouldn't surprise me in the least.. I've known many heavy social drinkers in my life and at least 3/4's of them walk, talk, think, and function like they have a half a brain....

Are there really that many people that have 100 drinks a MONTH?!? I barely have 100 glasses of water a month! :earseek:

"Socially functioning heavy drinkers often do not recognize that their level of drinking constitutes a problem that warrants treatment,"

Let's not sugar coat it shall we kids? If you drink 100 drinks a month, YOU ARE AN ALCOHOLIC.

Remeber....

Denial aint just a river in Egypt::yes::

I have some co workers who go out about 4 nights a week. Each night they probably have about 6 or so drinks... some nights more some nights less, with more on a weekend. If you do the math on that, 4 nights of 6 drinks and four weeks on average a month you get 96 drinks. I couldn't classify them as alcoholics but they do *like* to drink a lot.

Hmmm... might explain a lot that goes on here as well ;)

My DH had a very good friend who was an alcoholic (definition absolutely fits what was listed, he drank every evening when he came home from work). He was 41. About 4 months ago, we got a phone call from family (we've moved away and live 600 miles from them) saying that he was in the hospital, and they didn't know what happened. His brain scan showed that his brain had atrophied. He never recovered and died about 3 days after he collapsed. That brain atrophy was due to his alcoholism. The family is saying that he died of a heart attack, but he had no chance of recovery because his brain was so damaged.
