I've read a number of times on various forums that the food option (Turkey legs aside) at HS sort of um, suck. So I am wondering about taking the opportunity to travel to one of the other resorts to eat lunch. What restaurant at what resort would you choose and why?

I have never found it as horrible as people say. Personally, Pizza Planet isn't superb, but it's as good as Pizzafari in AK, etc. Sunset blvd now has ribs and chicken, and gourmet dogs.

I wouldn't leave just to eat, but if you are headed back for a mid-day break anyway, it may be nice to concentrate on morning snacks at Writers Stop or Starring Rolls then have a proper lunch at the resort or DTD.

I'm not sure if you are referring to counter-service or table-service...but I actually think the table-service restaurants are great!

Hollywood Brown Derby is good for crab cakes, cobb salad, noodle bowl, grapefruit cake (2 TS credits if you're on the DDP).

Sci-Fi is good for mostly the atmosphere, but they also have good burgers and shakes and some pretty great onion rings (1 TS credit on the DDP).

50's Prime Time gets a lot of good reviews, although I've never been.

If you are looking for a good CS option at lunch, try the fresh sandwiches and out of this world cupcakes from Starring Rolls Cafe.

If none of those interest you and you'd like to head over to an Epcot resort for a meal, my favorites are bluezoo and Flying Fish Cafe (for dinner), Beaches & Cream and ESPN Club (for lunch or basic dinner), Kimono's (for dinner). If you're looking for CS places around the Epcot resorts, there isn't much of a selection and for what your options are (sandwiches, hot dogs, pizza, burgers) I would just stay at DHS.

Thats funny. DHS has my favorite CS place. I think it is technically part of Fairfax, but I am not sure. They have the best veggie burger on property.

Well I certainly didn't mean to insult any of you that really like the options at HS! Sorry! We will likely do a Turkey leg as a snack. We will have little ones so I don't expect to do a full day at any park. Since we would be leaving anyways I wondered if that would be a good time to visit a 'favorite' at one of the nearby resorts.

I have never understood why anyone would leave DHS, just to go to the Boardwalk to eat. HBD is a wonderful restaurant. To me, Sci-Fi is better than B&C. WE don't eat CS, so I can't speak for that. That said, if you plan to leave anyway, the Boardwalk is a nice area to spend some time wandering around. There's not a whole lot of lunch options, but there's more for dinner. If you post what time you plan to eat & what type of meal you're looking for (TS, CS, DDP or OOP), people can suggest options that will work for you.

We typically plan just one meal at DHS since its not really a full day for us. Fortunately DS's favorite eatery (Sci-Fi) is there so we usually have a late lunch there. I personally don't think it is worth the time and effort to leave for food unless a break is needed or if you are a huge B&C fan.

We've eaten QS there a couple of times and it's been just fine. Not great, just OK.

On our HS day we usually just do a CS lunch and then head back to our resort or DD for dinner. If fantasmic isn't showing we don't usually stay late so it works out well for us. I also think that taking a midday break and heading to a resort for lunch is a great idea. That's exactly what we are doing on our MK day. You could take the boat to the boardwalk/beachclub area where there are plenty of options. My kids love the boat rides and the area is beautiful. It works great as a midday recharge before heading back to the park. Enjoy your trip! :thumbsup2

ETA: To each their own of course, but my family LOVES pizza and none of us liked the pizza at Pizza Planet. I think you could get a frozen pizza at the grocery store for $4 that tastes better. They did like the Toy Story theming however.

I'm looking at Allears.net right now for a counter service called Sunset Blvd, and I can't find it. Is that the correct name? Its in DHS?

TIA!

Sunset Blvd is the name of the 'street' in HS. The restaurants in that area are Catalina Eddy's, Rosie's All American Cafe, Fairfax Fare, Toluca Legs and Starring Roles. I don't know which of these the PP was referring to.

Considering the Epcot resorts don't offer much in the way of CS, I'd stay at DHS. And if you are talking TS for lunch, DHS restaurants are just as good as the limited Epcot resort lunch places.

I would not leave. I also have not found DHS to be as bad as others have said. We love 50's Primetime. It is a must do for our kiddos.

We're not fans of CS at DS. We either do TS at 50's Prime Time or Mama Melrose or else leave the park. We sometimes take the boat over to Epcot to eat at Sunshine Seasons or Tangerine Cafe or else we go to Pepper Market at CSR (love their nachos). We also take the boat over to the Boardwalk sometimes and eat at Big River Grill for lunch. For us, DS is not a full day park and we're usually ready to leave by lunch anyway.

To the original question, I think the resort I've noticed the most people "have to" eat at is Poly. Ohana is a favorite that is mentioned very often by posters and Kona cafe' has a number of fans as well. But really lots of the restaurants would be worth it. Will you be on the Dining Plan?

We will be on the DDP and will be staying at POR. Travelers include myslef, 4 yo dd & 2 yo...um is their a d type short form for twins?? DT?? 'Darling twins'?? I dunno. ANYWHOO me, hubby, 3 girls ages 4, 2 & 2. I like yummy food and I like exploring. In my original thought, I was just wondering if being at HS we would be in close proximity to some of the other resort favs. Thanks again. Oh and Ohana is def going to be one of our character breakfasts (along with Cape May).

I would not leave HS to eat lunch if I planned to come back to HS after lunch. Big loss of park time. I think the best time to do attractions at HS is during the day, especially early morning. It's less crowded and all the shows have a schedule mostly during the day. If my vacation only included 1 day at HS, I would not leave at all to make sure there's enough time... but we have always gone to HS for 2 or 2 1/2 days.

We have been to HS and left around 5pm or so to go have dinner at the Boardwalk Inn but we were not coming back. That worked out good for us because there's a boat from HS to the Epcot area resorts (Boardwalk Inn, Yacht Club, Beach Club, Swan/Dolphin) and after dinner we can enjoy the Boardwalk entertainers or go to Epcot.

We have been to SciFi Diner 3x and 50s Prime Time 2x. I recommend both. If on dining plan, just 1 TS credit and the food and theme were great. At SciFi, our lunch this year was very good. Brown Derby has great food and that's our choice if doing the fantasmic package.... but it's 2 dining credits. Mama Melrose was just OK, went once, and I wouldn't go back... the other choices in HS are much better.

If only doing 1 place for a meal, I'd pick SciFi or Prime Time. Do get a milkshake!

Thanks. I agree that leaving and coming back wouldn't be worth it. I was thinking more so a late lunch. I like the idea of taking the boat over to the boardwalk area. Thanks.

I've only ate at a CS once at HS and no it wasn't good. But if you are going to leave the park and go eat at a restaurant, then there are very good options in HS. Brown Derby is excellent & Sci Fi is fun and has good burgers. MM is good but more on the olive garden level. Never did 50s but I've heard it was good.

The TS restaurants are good, if you can make an ADR. 50's Prime Time, Sci-Fi, Brown Derby, a bit more upscale.

QS, I bail. I can't ever get into Starring Rolls, it's always packed because it's the only good counter service. Thankfully after all these years, DHS is a 1/2 day park for us so if we do rope drop, we then leave and eat lunch elsewhere.

At all cost avoid ABC Commissary, they should condem this place! As far as pizza, the only decent pizza at Disney is in Epcot at Via Napoli!
