DH and I have only made one trip as DVC members, and we shared a two-bedroom villa with my DM and her DF. (We have another trip in a 2 bedroom planned for later in the year.) We're thinking about adding another trip for the three of us (DH, DS, and me.)

Before this trip, we always stayed in deluxe hotel rooms, so we're not completely spoiled by space.

How does a studio compare to the hotel rooms in the BWI or the GF? I know about the obvious difference in the kitchen size and washer/dryer, but is there something else I ought to consider when trying to make up my mind?

There is no washer/dryer in a studio.

The only DVC studios at WDW that have 2 beds are at OKW, and all of them have 2Q beds. The other DVC studios have a queen bed and a double size sleeper sofa.

There will be a DVD player and you can get a DVD free at the resort, usually at the store, but at the Community center if there is one at the resort. Each of the DVC studios (except one studio at the VWL) has a balcony or a patio.

Have fun if you decide to go on a vacation in a studio!

DH is a sports fanatic, and we love having the 2 TVs in the one bedroom. The living room TV seems to only get ESPN, and the bedroom TV only gets the Disney propoganda channels like 17, 19, etc. For us, that's one of the biggest pluses-the 2 TVs.

If you have stayed in a 2BR and it was a lock-off, then you have seen the studio which is the second bedroom.

BWI hotel rooms are a little larger than the studios at BWV (and other DVC resorts, except OKWs which are the largest studios). The studio has the kitchnette, the hotel room does not. The hotel room has two queens, the BWV studio has a queen and a couch that pulls out to a double size not a queen (typical of all DVC resorts except OKW which has two queens).

Most of the GF hotel rooms are larger (by 30 to 50 sq ft) than any of the studios at any of the DVC resorts.

One exception to above: AKV "value" studios, of which there only a small number, are significantly smaller than other DVC studios and close in size to a Port Orleans room.

We're a family of 3 that stays only in studios. We find the room sizes generally comparable to a reg. hotel size room (I am not going to quibble over 40 or 50 SF one way or the other). Huge plus for us is that the studios have the kitchenette which we love. We don't eat in the villas other than breakfast - so the frig, coffee pot, microwave & toaster are all we need. I also have no intentions or desire to do laundry while on vacation so we find the studios to be a great value for our points. If you want to compare it as such, it's basically an effiiciency rather than an apartment or condo - but that's OK for us - we spend the majority of our time at the parks or the pool. Personally, our least fav. studio was OKW. Didn't care for the layout and the bath that wasn't split. But that's OK, we just won't stay there again since we like the layouts better at the other properties.

We have stayed in a 2 BR, but it was not a lock-off. I wasn't (and am not) sure if the studio is the size of the individual bedrooms in the 2 bedroom, just with a kitchenette added to make it ever so slightly bigger, or if it is the exact same size and just feels more cramped because everything is closer together to make room for the kitchenette.

We would never try to get a value studio - I think they would really feel cramped. I am worried that even a regular studio is going to feel a little small, but I won't know until we either get a lockoff or just try a studio for a trip. We also prefer king sized beds - DH is 6'4" - although we can make do with a queen in a pinch.

Hmm, I am still waffling. I'm sorry the regular rooms are a little bigger than a studio, since I know we can make do with a regular room. We're not sure we're going to try to schedule a third trip anyway, but we're going to schedule it soon if we're going to do it at all. It is nice to have a better idea what to expect when I start checking what room categories are still available.

When are you going? We are leaving in 32 days for our first studio stay in quite sometime ... the last 3 trips were one bedrooms. I'll report back. I'm hoping we will like it so we can conserve points on future trips.

Our last studio stay was at VWL when the girls were 18 months and 4 years. I actually preferred it to a regular room. I liked the kitchenette for breakfasts and snacks, and having the sofa bed folded up during the day gave us plenty of floor space. But, I'm 5'2" and DH is 5'10" and we sleep in a queen bed at home ... the king bed in the one bedrooms seems huge to us.

I am going April 2 to SSR in a studio.. I can report back as well.. if you still are wondering by April 10 that is.. :thumbsup2

I'm not sure exactly when we're going to try to go. I'm just trying to squeeze a third trip into this year. As strange as it seems, it is just about the cheapest family vacation we can take right now. We have annual passes and points to spare... We were going to bank them, but now I'm tempted to use them.

I'd like to go in May, since at the moment there is still some availability and it won't be as hot as it will be later in the summer. We've already got a trip planned for October in another 2 bedroom.

I'm thinking... You're not so "anal" after all... Just pretty much like all of us.

:goodvibes Luv you lady.

Any bites or jobs? I'm still looking...
