Please remind me of what comes standard in a studio. I'll be staying at AKV-Kidani next week and haven't stayed in a studio for a couple years.

Is everything disposable?

I may pack a couple bowls/plates if needed.

Thanks!

When we stay in a studio, I always bring a few Gladware plastic containers with lids. They double as cereal bowls for us, the paper ones that are provided are tiny!

You get real glasss and ceramic coffee cups. The coffee cups are tiny as well. If I have the room, I try to bring a larger mug for coffee as well.

Great idea, Bobbi! I've never brought a coffee mug, but last time I was at AKV they were so tiny, I'm going to. I'd never noticed how tiny they were before-I was thinking that the "Value" in my studio name was partly because you get "value" sized coffee mugs there. I think that next time I'll go to the 99 cent store before I go so that I can leave the mug there if I don't have room to pack it for my return home. Besides, maybe if they see the coffee mug, they'll get the hint we need bigger mugs!

To the OP, what's happened to me a few times in a studio, is that I didn't get all I was supposed to (like only 3 knives in there, or only 2 bowls). Then I run out to the mousekeepers in the morning and ask for more. The only problem with that is that I always have the "good" fortune of meeting mousekeepers who only speak Spanish. So if possible, learn how to say "knives, forks, bowls", etc. in Spanish before you go. They're very nice once they understand what you want and have always been more than happy to help.

The studios are supposed to supply 4 each of paper plates, paper bowls & 4 "sets" of plastic silverware. There should be a small Palmolive, a roll of paper towels, a kitchen sponge & dish towel + 4 ea. of the coffee cups (not mugs) and 4 drinking glasses. If you are missing even 1 plate you can call Mousekeeping and say you were shorted & they will send more.

I hate that they are so stingy but since we only use studios I am used to it. We store extra paper plates & plastic bowls with lids + plastic silverware along with coffee filters, plastic cups, straws and a set of sharp knives in our Owners Locker. I also keep an ice cube tray ('cuz there's no ice maker), a couple blue ice & a collapsible cooler, a bottle opener & wine glasses in it. Gosh I love that silly purple box! I am so glad I don't have to pack that stuff each time!!

The coffee cups at OKW were larger than at AKL. I was at each for 8 nights in January.

Because I intended to cook, I took: a small crock pot (gave away at the end), a small cutting board, sharp knife, large spoon from dollar store, extra dish towel, pot holders, nested set of pyrex bowls with covers, 2 place settings of flatware, s&p, cinnamin (not used), chili powder, parsely flakes, italian seasoning, and some heavy duty paper plates.

We had: scrambled eggs with bacon (microwave), home made sauce with ravioli, sloppy joes, chili chicken, and beef stew, besides cooked veggies, veggies and dip, sandwiches, salads etc.

I just got back from the Villas at the Grand Californian. The only items there were 4 ceramic mugs and 4 glass drinking glasses. Oh, and ice tongs. Nothing else. I asked if paper cups were available were available and was told no.

OMG! If anyone else has experience with a studio at the VGC and dishware, please post here. I might go this summer and want to be prepared.

Thanks for all the help! I'm sure we will be fine with the mugs and glasses. But might pack a few paper plates and some utensils in the luggage.

I pack plastic dishes and stadium cups. For only me and my DH, they really don't take up that much room, and are so helpful. I bring the paperware back for our break room at work. At Vero Beach once, I couldn't finish my flat bread, and they let me take it back to our room, plate, silverware and all. It was nice to have some real silverware. If you're at a place with room service, maybe if you order something when you first get there, you can have real cups and plates, etc.

We stayed in a studio at the VGC two weeks ago. I opened the cupboards to see what was there. I saw paper bowls and plastic utensils. We didn't use anything, because we were there for one night and had other plans for dining. They were in a different cupboard then the drinking glasses.

I looked in every opening there LOL. I even asked a housekeeper if there were paper cups available, and was told no.
