Studio Users

Regardless of the size of the room, we are always in a two bedroom we only eat breakfast in the room. Cereal, fruit, bagels, etc. We keep snacks, popcorn, etc.

We have tried the dining plan, we have tried TIW and we find just paying out of pocket to work best for us.

As we simply do not know from day to day at Disney what and how much we want to eat.

I hate eating out all the time. All the grease and salt... It's just not healthy. And although I love salads, I don't want them every meal. So we'll eat in about 4 out of every 5 meals.

We eat a lot of fruit, cereal, make our own sandwiches (tuna, pb, cold cuts, vege wraps) and next trip I'll be bringing a skillet along to make things like pancakes, french toast, stir fried meals (without all the grease the restaurants use) etc.

We always stay in a studio (two adults) and the only meal that we eat there is a quick breakfast (toast, English Muffin). For us, eating out is part of the vacation and we love our TiW!

We do much the same as others have stated…breakfast and snacks in the room. We do have the TIW card which we use when we eat in a park, usually a mid afternoon lunch meal and then in the evening we bring something back from DTD (Earl of Sandwich etc.) or find a counter service meal. Occasionally we go to another resort like Port Orleans (those who take the TIW card) or off site to Subway or Papa Johns or whatever we have a craving for, it keeps the cost down somewhat. BCV doesn’t offer much as far as a quick service establishment as some of the other resorts. Beaches and Cream is the only one and that seems to always a wait to get a table and they won’t let you “carry-out”.

these are all great tips, but most of them would apply to any room on property (CBR, POP, etc) .

I thought the OP was looking more for ideas for meals IN the studio (since she is used to a villa with a kitchen. ie, how to "cook" or prepare a meal using the kitchenette.
at least those were the tips I was hoping for...anyone?

The problem that I have in really using the kitchenette, microwave for instance, is the lack of utensils.

Now, I've learned here that if you are in a studio you can get wine glasses, for instance from mousekeeping. People have gotten a blender. So, maybe you can get a cutting board, knife, bowl...maybe you can. With some accessories, I would use the kitchenette more, and I will when I drive down in December and have the month of January in all sorts of accomodations, including studios. Then I will be with DGFs who are more "into cooking, saving money, having healthier meals."

I second many of the breakfast suggestions. I make scrambled eggs for breakfast sandwiches in the microwave, warm up the pre-cooked bacon or sausage, and add beverages for breakfast. I enjoy the Birdseye Voila meals, or Buitoni dinners for the microwave, but the freezer in the studio can only hold a couple of these. I stock up on deli meats (Boar's Head from Publix) -- and some fruits and veggies.

We have a George Foreman grill in our OL along with knife, cutting board, and cheese server.

On our last trip we segmented the trip, and purchased the QSDP for one night for the two of us. We got chef's salads and desserts from Mara, and those really stretched out for us.

We will get lunchmeat, fresh fruit and breakfast items like most have already said. If you are driving it is easier just pre-do some items and freeze for the drive. Sloppy joes, chili, soups, taco meat. We have gotten a cooked chicken in the past and had it with veggies and bagged salad.

2-3 nights is our limit in a studio I like a full kitchen.

my food allergies and DVC are great.

so definitely use the kitchennett in the studio alot. (only exception is BLT - love the snack bar/food court at CR)

mostly bring stuff from home - I drive - so this is not a big problem. double the recipes for a few nights at home - and freeze the extra one.

since these are too late for you - the QS will work great for you.

We usually Bring snacks and then buy breakfast stuff. We make scrambled eggs with ham and cheese in the Microwave kids like frozen pizza's stuff like that if they get hungry. Nothing like an Omlett while sitting on the Lanai Watching those Friendship Boats making there run from the Boardwalk:thumbsup2...Shawnpirate:

A good meal starts with fresh ingredients and the kitchenette with a microwave as the main "cooking" source only lends itself to pre-packaged "meals" that are horrible for you. Sure you can heat up a can of soup but you are ingesting tons of sodium. Even if you could figure out a decent from-scratch meal the limited prep area will make it very annoying to put anything together.

The only way around this is to get an owner's locker and stuff it full of some things that you can use to make simple but good food.

Otherwise you will be eating mostly sammiches, cold food, and raw fruits and vegetables.

Thank you all for your suggestions. We are doing a split stay and the first part we are doing the QSDP. The second part we are going to eat in the room as much as possible. We shall see how it goes.
