Student discount of Microsoft Office 2010?

DD22 is graduating college in Dec, and we got her a laptop as a combo Xmas/graduation gift. She wants Microsoft Office 2010 on it....which is an additional 100+. Should I pay the extra 100 to get it from Best Buy, or would it be cheaper for her to get it with a school discount? Need to decide today, since I'm doing store pickup on the laptop today. Thanks!

Most colleges have a discount for Microsoft Office. I think it is $80 at DD's school. Another local college offers it for $10 (wish DD went there - lol)

School discount is best unless your corporation offers "home use" of Office. It's about $10 for Office. Check you HR benefits site. I've seen the offer at both large companies I work for.

Yup - check with the school first. Usually, however, the discounted software is bundled with a laptop purchase through the school, but not always.

Students, staff and faculty can purchase software from www.journeyed.com for much less. You do have to provide your student/employee status, but the discounts are excellent.

Definitely check the school first for all software. I am at a Purdue extension but our school offers 1 copy per student of Microsoft office for 10.00. It is only one copy and if you lose it your out of luck but it is significantly cheaper than retail.

we have free downloads of software from my university. Maybe have her check with the IT department if they offer something similar.

I've been able to get the full professional version of Office from the community college where I was taking courses for less than the price at which BB was selling the student/teacher version. DS is in grad school and can get licenses for himself for anything he needs for a nominal charge. Discounted software can be bundled with laptops purchased at schools but need not be. The community college had retail packages available.

As long as she has an email through college, you can order it through the Microsoft website. Best Buy does not offer the same packages (even though they'll try to tell you otherwise) - Microsoft offers more with their Office 2010 package than Best Buy does for a cheaper price.

When you order through Microsoft, you'll receive a product key where you'll need to download the software onto the laptop, but you'll also have the option to purchase the full CD set (I believe it was an additional $14). We were glad we ordered those back up disks since the hard drive on my son's laptop died just 6 weeks after getting his laptop. You WILL need your product key to use the backup disks though so make sure you keep it!

We got the student price at academicsuperstore dot com for several different programs. You just have to prove you are a student. School id.

$99.95 direct from Microsoft, and as others pointed out is the full academic suite. This is different than Home and Student which amazon and Best Buy sell. (You don't get publisher and access)

The best option is to get through your school or work, ranging in price from free to $10. Microsoft ran a deal at the start of the school year offering this bundle for $60. That deal has expired though.

Going through the two academic options, journeyed and academic super store are hit or miss. Very used car dealer experience, some will rave and say it was great, others will tell horror stories.

Check onthehub.com. I found them thru microsoft's website. My daughter's school had a downloadable microsoft office 2010 for free for students. She had to sign up using her college email address and then wait for a confirmation email in order to qualify for it.

Go to microsoft.com and do a search for "student discount". Choose Office 2010 from the subcategories in the first search result. There is a list of places that provide microsoft software to students for a discount thru their schools. On the Hub Network is one of them.
