Okay...probably not the place to put this but this forum is my absolute favorite and I visit it daily. Anyhow, I know there are some creative ideas out there for student council elections. My son is running for president (8th grade) and he is NOT the most popular guy in the school, nor is he a loner. He is looking for something that will be humorous yet get the serious side of running for the office as well. We've looked at youtube.com and the ideas there just aren't what we're looking for. His speech is not allowd to exceed 3 minutes. Come on...someone hit me with something unique that will help him have a chance at winning. :)

Shouldn't this be *his* speech? If the students in his class are supposed to be evaluating the candidates based on their speeches, then the content should be written by the candidate. :confused3

I see no harm in parents and thousands of people on a Disney message board helping with a speech :rotfl:. The presidents of our own country have people on staff for this, right? Either way- What is the basis of the speech? Are they presenting their ideas for what they will do as president? And if so, what does he stand for? If we had a better idea, maybe we could provide ideas.

It doesn't matter. It is always just a popularity contest anyways. If he's not the most popular kid in the class, I would just do a fun & not-too-serious speech. As long as he exudes confidence, they at least won't make fun of him.

When I was in grade school, one of the candidates did a speech that took the titles of tv shows. This was back in the 80s. It was really humorous. Maybe he could use song titles instead. Just an idea.

I wasn't asking for anyone to write his speech....he has done that on his own! What I was asking for was unique ideas that he could do. For example...one student rode in on a tricycle, one let another student throw a pie in his face, and yet another played a song on their guitar. He knows what he wants to say...just needed something that would help the younger kids at the school "remember" him. The above examples I gave....each of them won and they were NOT the most popular kids in the school, they just did something memorable during elections.

The purpose of the trike, pie, etc., is just to get attention? If you, I mean he, wants to do some sort of foolishness, I think he needs it to be something that matches his personality. Not just some stupid act.

WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY do people post things like this in the BUDGET FORUM??? Some of us come hear to read about budget information and then have to weed through posts that clutter the forum with NON BUDGET related things. Yes, you can ignore them BUT when there are posts like this they move the other budget ones (the legit ones for this forum) down and make them harder to find the new ones. There is a community board.

By the way your son should be doing his own speech and his own topic. He should be himself---IDK if you watch DWTS but Len is always telling people the stupid little things they do before the dances distract from the dance itself. He should just give his speech and be himself.

My daughter has given her speech for 3 years. First year she made it in ... I was a bit surprised because she isn't the most popular. The first year's speech was very dry and straight forward but this was the first year they were able to run and the kids took the voting a bit more serious. Second year's speech was similar and she didn't make it in. Third year she went with a rhyme that was unique and she made it in.

My advice is for the kids is to remember their audience. Think about what would make them stand out and try that.

I see nothing wrong with helping your child with his speech. Isn't that why we are here as parents? To help our kids, not do their work, but to give them the guidance they need. I am always so surprised at the reactions on these boards at times.
My daughter ran twice, once for Student Council VP and than for President and won both times. We made posters that looked like the American Flag. Took a white poster and than shiny wrapping paper in blue and red and cut out stripes and whatever shapes to look like the flag. They were alot of work but looked awesome. Another student had hers professionally made, but this one was so much better!
As far as her speech, her audience was younger, the oldest class was fifth grade. She included TV shows, 'Are you Smarter than a 5th grader', which was popular at the time. She also had an idea about raffling homework passes for charity. Teachers in her school give the students a homework pass for certain holidays, but this was an extra which I think the students loved. What kid doesn't like getting out of homework? I would double check with the school before doing anything like this though.
Good Luck to you and your son!
