We ( or I lol), was thinking of staying at the Sequoia Lodge in September. However I have noticed that a lot of peole on here would prefer the Cheyenne of Santa Fe.
I have 2 kids (6 and one that will be 3), we liked the thought of a swimming pool, but I wondered if you guys could give me plain old HONEST advice.
Thanks in advance
Sarah :thumbsup2

I have stayed in SL & Cheyenne. I like both. I would choose SL over Cheyenne simply because of the pool & its closer. Having said that I hgardly use the pool when we go.

I think people choose Cheyenne or Santa Fe because its cheaper usually & they prefer the theming of Cheyenne.

Also the SL has double beds & some children don't like sharing, so they pick the Cheyenne due to the bunk beds & the Santa Fe has a couple of rooms with them too.

I think if you are going in September the park will close earlier so you can use the pool in the evenings:thumbsup2

I honestly prefer the Santa Fe to the Sequia Lodge.

I have no idea why I just feel more comfortable at the Santa Fe.

I love the theaming of the Cheyenne however I haven't stayed there yet so can't comment until March!

I have stayed at both the Sequoia Lodge and the Cheyenne.
We much prefered the Cheyenne and although the SL does have a pool we only used it once in 5 days, we didn't really have the time and were just too tired.
For me it would have to be the Cheyenne.:thumbsup2

I like the Sequoia Lodge, had a lovely stay there in the summer.

We had a walk around the Santa Fe last week and I can honestly say it made me want to cry! If I turned up there to stay I'd be so dissappointed.

Cheyenne looked super cute though, but we felt it was a very long walk from the village and parks so we wont be staying there on any upcoming trips. We go back to the room a lot throughout the day and jsut would waste a lot of time for us!

We have stayed at all 3 of the hotels you mentioned and chose them all for different reasons.

Santa Fe - budget trips so wanted the cheapest possible to give us money to spend on food and things

Cheyenne - because of the bunk beds. We were taking DS2 (21) with us on that trip as well as DD (8) and didnt think he would want to share a bed with his little sister

Sequoia Lodge for the pool - we were going in July with long park hours so wanted somewhere to escape to during the day to give us a break from the parks

We liked all 3 and would quite happily stay there again although Santa Fe is my least favourite due to theming
We didnt find the walk from Cheyenne that much further from S Lodge

Have stayed at both and because I wasn't impressed with Sequoia the first time, I booked a second stay, but unfortunately it didn't impress me that time either, to be honest I've never liked the look of it from the outside so maybe that has biased my opinion. I would stay there a third time, because I enjoy the walk to the park and prefer the breakfast and breakfast arrangements, the pool makes no odds as we never seem to find the time to visit it.
For our next visit though we've opted to go back to Cheyenne, because my 3 boys 9, 14 and 41 like it and to be honest it's my 2nd favourite out of the hotels we've stayed at and I've also been really pleased at the reviews recently. It has the most fantastic theming, not sure about the walk to the park, on maps it doesn't appear to be much further than the SL or NPB but will find that out next time, but like all the Disney Hotels it has a free shuttle bus service although be warned this can get very busy, hence why I prefer to walk.

i honestly can find nothing wrong with the santa fe. its perfect for budget trips and tbh the themeing of a hotel isnt really important to me. as long as its clean and comfortable then i am happy.

the theming of the cheyenne does look better and its not that much more. we dont want bunk beds thats why we didnt stay there.

we wouldnt use the pool in the sl so thats why its not really worth the extra for us

Sorry hadn't read the post properly and didn't realise the Santa Fe was in the equation. Stayed there too and didn't have any problem with the hotel or room, just prefer the Cheyenne. I think the SF is unattractive from the outside, inside it's lovely with it's bright colours, we had a really fun evening at the bar which ended up with my OH on the mike singing Elvis songs.
There are some lovely trails to follow in the hotel gardens and a crashed spaceship to find too :)

I didnt find the walk to the Cheyenne that long, probably about 10mins.

The Cheyenne is my fave hotel, the themeing is excellent and you really do feel like your in a wild west movie. The rooms are also warm and comfy.

I like the Santa Fe aswell, yeah the outside themeing isnt fantastic but the rooms are comfy and bright. I also perfer the Santa Fe shop to other hotel shops in the resort.

Not stayed at the SL so i cant comment.

I've stayed at Santa Fe 4 times and Sequoia Lodge 4 times. Unless money was a really big issue, I would definitely choose SL over SF. The (Montana) rooms are appreciatively bigger with more extras; they are lighter; the hotel is nearer to the Park; you are actually in a hotel so you can go for breakfast or a drink in the bar without going outisde; the breakfast is much better; children love the pool...adults do too - especially if the Park is not open late. I just found it far more of a holiday experience than the SF. The Santa Fe reminds me of a Travelodge, but without the tea making facilities.

Oh...the Redwood Bar - a lovely place to have a drink or snack.
There is a reason the SL is more expensive than the SF...it's worth it. :teeth:

I have stayed at SL once and Cheyenne twice. I prefer Cheyenne for two reasons;
  • My kids are teens and cannot share a bed, DH wants to share with me so bunks + a double are the answer!
  • We have a swimming pool within walking distance of where we live. I don't go to DLRP to swim.
SL is a lovely Hotel but i don't think its as much fun as the cheyenne and i will eventually stay in all the Hotels at DLRP but I still think Cheyenne will be my favourite because its themeing is so good.

We stayed at SF when there was just the two of us and it was great. When we went with out DD we opted for the Cheyenne for a change and loved it. So much so we stayed there when our DS came along.

Our two will be 7 and 3 when we go in June and we have opted for the Cheyenne again simply because of the bunk beds. I can only imagine the sleep depravation that would be involved with two double bed and two fidgety children!!!

The walk to and from the Cheyenne to the parks are 15 minutes at most with toddlers and it is a great way to start or end the day (especially after a big meal in the village!)

I can see SL being a big draw for the pool but the invonvenience of the beds doesn't outway the luxury of a pool for us.

Finally, the theming of the hotel is fabulous and really does make you fell like you are in the wild west. The kids love it (and so do I!!)

I hope this helps.

We stayed at the Cheyenne in June and the Sequoia at the beginning of this month and definitely preferred the Cheyenne.

There was nothing wrong with the rooms at the SL, but we preferred the bunk beds in the Cheyenne. We also preferred that the Cheyenne is made up of smaller buildings rather than having the hustle and bustle of a huge hotel (we stayed in a Montana room). The theming of the Cheyenne is much better especially for young children. The distance was the only thing that we preferred about the SL and that was only due to the time of year. In June we walked to and from the parks everyday (often going back to the hotel during the day aswell) and even with a 4 year old the walk was lovely and not too exhausting. However, because of the sub zero temperatures and snow at the beginning of January, I am glad we chose the SL for that visit. We also had very good intentions of using the pool, but didn't even look at it during our 6 days.

Whatever you choose I'm sure you'll have a great time. Both are fantastic hotels and I'm sure you wont be disappointed with either.

:thumbsup2 THANKYOU VERY MUCH:thumbsup2

You have all really helped in our decision. We are going to book the Cheyenne for 7 nights in September:cool1: The price difference and bunk beds were a big factor and I think it's better value especially for the children. I don't think a couple of swims in the pool is worth £250 ( that was the difference in price ).
We are also going to buy the half board premium vouchers, because eating in the restaurants is a big part of our holiday.
Thanks so much again
