Camp Wannacropit is next weekend and I've been trying since last week to kit my pages. I HAVE a bunch of sketches in hand but they don't use many photos - of which, of course I have tons. And, the photos I took of certain events don't really tell the story very well.

Problem 1 - Retreat! Photos are the flag, a couple group shots of the event, and two photos of old vets who struggled up out of their chairs to stand for the ceremony. For me, they were the most moving part of the event, but the photos just show two old guys standing there. I'd like to convey the "feeling" somehow.

Problem 2 - 4 Park day. Tons of photos. Whirlwind day that included activities in every park and almost every mode of transportation. Want to show "energy".

Problem 3 - WAY too many animals from my balcony. Even MORE safari animals (I went 6 times in 8 days)

Problem 4 - I want the viewer to HEAR the sound of the drums and convey the beauty of hearing the South Africans sing their national anthem, each verse in his or her own native tongue.

Please Help?

For problem 2 adding energy- I find that arrows and patterned paper with wavy live help to convey moving. You can look for a sketch where you can use lots of photos and use arrows between them to move through the day.

For the retreat- I am guessing that it will be your words that will best convey the feeling but I would say using weathered looked paper- particularly woody and old flag patterns would be good. I saw an awesome example of this for a card on the Our Daily Bread designs blog hop that happened yesterday: http://simplysouthernsandee.blogspot.com/2012/03/for-love-of-backgrounds.html

Problem 3: Way to many animals- have you ever added a mini book to a page. I have made one in quick quote classes hat used small photos and 1 in an SEI lass that used regular photos and 4x6 page pockets to add it onto the front of the page protector.

do you have any video of these events? Do you have a smart phone? Here is an idea:

Check out this thread:

I don't want to spoil everyone's fun on seeing this thread. But I think this may work for you to show some of the energy and sights and sounds.
Brilliant idea - but NO video and NO smart phone. Just a wee bit too high tech for this old lady.

Arrows! YES! I can do that.
Weathered? YES! I already bought some CM Rugged paper.
Mini book? Hmm. I'm stopping at a couple LSS on the way, I'll see if either of them have the stick on photo pockets. Otherwise, I guess I'll be using lots of divided page protectors. Thanks for the ideas, Rebecca!

I spent a lot of time yesterday, moving stuff from one side of the table to the other, spinning my wheels :sad2: Today, at least, I can cut arrows IF I remember which cart they're on.

Linda..... here are a few things that came to mind right away..... but I haven't taken the time to read the other responses, so sorry if some of them are duplicate ideas.

I presume you mean the flag retreat at Disney?? Anyhow.... how about including the words to a song like the Nat'l Anthem? I find that when I include song titles I start singing along in my head as I view the page and it really brings "feeling". If not the Nat'l Anthem, then maybe America the Beautiful?

How about a title like "Worth the Effort" and explain what you witnessed with the men struggling to rise from their chairs to pay respects to the flag??

Problem 2 - 4 Park day. Tons of photos. Whirlwind day that included activities in every park and almost every mode of transportation. Want to show "energy".

Well... my first thought was a title to convey energy.... like "World in Motion".... or "Movin' through the World" .... maybe a take off on a Wizard of Oz type tornado?? Or photos places in a circle? Sorry....not coming up with much for this one.

Problem 3 - WAY too many animals from my balcony. Even MORE safari animals (I went 6 times in 8 days)

Lots of wallet sized pictures.... or smaller! Make them into some sort of grid page. I do that frequently when we've been to a zoo..... so many pictures, but I don't want many, many pages. Or maybe a triple page layout instead of the usual single or double?? Last option that comes to mind is to just use the very best 5 or 6 photos on the scrapped page, but include a standard photo pocket page for the next page and include all of the rest...... or put them in a pocket page to be "viewed as desired."

Problem 4 - I want the viewer to HEAR the sound of the drums and convey the beauty of hearing the South Africans sing their national anthem, each verse in his or her own native tongue.

Again I'm going to say MUSIC for this last one. Could you google the words to the songs?? Even include them in their native languages? Maybe include the colors of the flag of South Africa??

Please Help?

Sorry I'm not coming up with more. If you need sketches that include more photos, try checking out some of the links that have been flying around here lately. I found some GREAT sketches for 2 page layouts that include anywhere from 3 to 9 4 x 6 photos. I LOVE pages where I DO NOT have to precisely trim photos to specific sizes................P

Thank you! I've cut a BUNCH of arrows in a variety of shapes and sizes. I might try the circle idea - that sounds good. AND I found the lyrics to the South African National anthem with all the languages for the drumming page. On Stand and Salute cart there are some words from the pledge of allegience, so I've cut those. I think they play both Star Spangled banner and America the beautiful, so if I have room.

I *KNEW* I'd get some great help here! Thanks!

I always out animal shots into a collage with Picasa to get as many as possible on a page:thumbsup2

Too late to do that now, but I did do two on Walgreens - giraffes and gorillas. Probably should have done more while they were on sale.
