Stuck between two restaurants...help!

For the first night of our Christmas vacation at Disney I've already made ADR for the Grand Floridian Cafe because I wanted to go over there anyway to see the Christmas decorations. However, I'm starting to think that 1900 Park Fare might be a better choice (and use of my table service ddp meal). Here's my thinking so far:

Pros for GF Cafe: Steak as an entree (yum!)

Pros for 1900: Chilled strawberry soup (sounds delicious) and appetizers included since it's a buffet (is this right?)

I'm undecided about the whole character dining thing. I've never been to one and I don't know if my family would feel out of place (2 adults and 2 college kids).

So should I switch my reservations? Thanks!

We love 1900 Park Fare
We have been to several character meals with adults only
We did brunch @ 1900 Park Fare for our rehersal the day before the wedding
There was 36 adults and 4 kids. The adults had just as much fun

We had an amazing meal at GFC, it was nice and quiet and relaxing and delicious! Tons of pics in my Aug review.

I would not go to 1900 PF because the noise level is insane...we did breakfast there once and left with a migraine. If you really want to try the strawberry soup go to Kona for breakfast, order the tonga toast and it comes with a side of strawberry sauce and it is identical to the soup.

We love 1900 Park fare, I have never tried GFC but you can't go wrong with 100 PF

If you don't have younger kids I would go to the GFC. Like MickeyNicki said, the noise level at 1900 PF is very loud. We went there for dinner and the food was not very good (although we did like the strawberry soup ).

If you are concerned about best use of your DDP credits....
If you order the steak at GFC plus a dessert you would be very close to the total of the buffet price at 1900 if your vacations falls into holiday price increases for the buffets. Otherwise, as I calculate it, GFC would be slightly more.

I'm glad we went once because I have a 6 year old daughter, but it's not even on her list to go back to next year.

We like 1900 Park Fare but without kids I would try GFC. Especially if you are looking forward to ordering a steak. I've always heard good things about GFC but, because we have 2 little ones, I've never had time to try it.

...However, if you really enjoy buffets, then go for 1900. Check out the menu here and make sure that you like the choices. I think the food is "okay". The desserts are good. It is crowded and a little noisy but the characters are fun. I don't think you'd feel out of place, adults do character meals all the time.

Either way you'll be in the GF which is lovely. Good luck and have a fun trip.

Especially seeing as you have no little ones in your party I would highly recommend GFC. The food is really good and the atmosphere is far calmer than 1900.

Have you called to see if 1900 PF is even available? I'm not sure how fast those ADRs go, but there may not even be a suitable ADR available for you, which would make the decision easier, LOL.

I'd vote for GF Cafe anyway, considering you're all adults. It will be more peaceful and it's a very pretty restaurant.

I've had good meals at both places! Don't let being adults put you off character meals . . . Its just DH and I and we go to all of them!!!

I'm not gonna vote because I'm not sure what you are really looking for out of the meal. If your are looking for good food and a relaxing atmosphere then do GFC. If your are looking to have some fun, don't mind the noise, and don't mind losing some food quality but getting all you can eat then do 1900 Park. Don't get me wrong the food at 1900 Park is not bad but it is still a buffet, the prime rib was good and I really enjoyed the salads and the strwberry soup was delish. The characters are a riot and its a fun time. I would ask the college kids if I was you what they would want.

What is wrong with adults only at meals with characters if I didn't have my kids i would go to them all they are the best. Please don't take this wrong but you are going to a place the mouse built.

Since you are all adults, unless anyone in your party is a huge fan of the wicked stepmother and the stepsisters from Cinderella (I think they are still the dinner characters) I would go with GFC. It's a lovely location, good food, and a lot calmer atmosphere than 1900 PF. Really you'll be fine with either, but my preference in your situation would be GFC. Have fun!

We had a great dinner at GFC in August.

Walked by 1900 Park Faire and the NOISE. I have kids and I don't think I'd eat there. (well, not unless a little blond with big baby blues were begging, of course!)

If you want a quieter meal at 1900PF, ask to be seated in the room off of the main dining room
