The pound is as strong as it has been against the Dollar for 14 years when there was very unusual circumstances just before Black Wednesday.

Current best thoughts are that this will continue as the US economy is not in a very good shape and that our own interest rates could increase again, strengthening the pound further.

If it goes much higher does anyone else fancy chipping in to buy Disney?:rotfl:

I'll just buy the Grand Floridian, if its all the same to you! ;)

hopefully it'll stick for a while but I hope it doesn't mean a huge crash is coming.

intrest rates back then were 16% Glad there not now

My dh reckons that things will change after the election and a banker friend of FIL said that things could well change shortly.

Oh I had forgotten about them and didn't think a General was due yet! Wasn't even sure the locals would have any effect :confused3 Hope Tony takes them all with him!

Inflation Signs

The pound surged today as a report showed house-price inflation quickened to the fastest pace in almost two years in February. Home values rose 12.1 percent in the year, the most since March 2005, according to Rightmove Plc, the country's biggest property Web site. Factory-gate prices gained 0.6 percent in March, up from 0.4 percent a month before, according to a government report today.

``Inflation is a problem,'' said Paul Chertkow, head of global currency research at Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi UFJ Ltd. in London. ``We could have people talking about not just one more quarter-point increase after one in May, but maybe two more.''

Chertkow said the pound may break $2 this week, and rise as high as $2.05.

I got $1.92 this morning as my nephew's Birthday pressie (so he can buy all his designer gear while on hols, bless!)

I got mine from Thomas Cook, who matched Lunn Poly or whoever they are now (couldn't be bothered to walk back!)

Do you get the Tesco money in store, or order it on-line? Do you get points too?!!

I am heading to London next week - I'm not glad about the strong pound (unlike everyone here!) At least I can still travel there on a budget. :)

You do get the points but not many i got 100 points for £1,000 so i found it was not really worth it on the points but if they are the best rate you can get it's worth it

thanks ariel75 - I'll look there next time I'm gonna get some, never thought of trying there before (or even if any of our local Tesco's do it!)

We paid of our cruise today on our Nationwide CC. Not sure what rate i'll get but im sure it will be good!!
