My DD will be almost 6 years old when we leave and I have been looking for a stroller big enough to fit her in. I would really like to bring my own just so I don't have to go through the pain of renting one every day. She is just 52 pounds now and we leave in December. She probably won't be over 65 lbs or so. She is tall for her age. She stands right at 49 inches now. Does anyone know where I can find one for a "big" kid? Thanks for all your help.

Check out the Maclarens. The weight limit on them is 55lbs. They are a bit pricey....I haven't personally used one yet, I just recently ordered mine. There are a few other threads also about big kids and strollers, you should check them out.

I knew I wasnt going to get to this thread before someone mentioned a Maclaren stroller.

If you just want a simple stroller that wont cost you your next child as payment, go with any Target, Kamrt or Walmart. They will have an umbrella stroller that looks just like a larger built stroller. They arent what people normally consider an umbrella stroller. They have a canopy, bag underneath and usually a cup holder near the handlebars. And they usually recline. They will run around $20.00 to $50.00 and up.

I love my Maclaren BUT I realy prefer my cheapie Century for WDW. I know thw weight limits are lower, but it still might be okay for you.

Reasons I hate the mac for disney - teeny tiny basket, no cupholders, no kids tray. Also it's very narrow, which is fine for my son but not my daughter.

The stroller we use for Disney has all of the "stuff", is easy to fold and lightweight. It holds our diaper stuff, sweaters & snacks. It has an almost full recline and DS has napped in it many, many times.

They don't make my stroller anymore, but there are similar Graco ones available. Maybe like the Literider? It looks like the travel system ones but is smaller and lighter. I think it was about $35. It does NOT fold like an umbrella but folds down small enough. I'll be shopping for a new one for our April trip & leaving the Macs at home!

I have posted a similiar thread about this topic. It is all well and good to suggest a cheaper Kmart, Target, etc. stroller, but if the weight limit does not accomodate your child than it is a waste of money. Once a child gets so big, and their weight is more than the stroller allows (then remember you will probably have a bag hung on the handles or something in the basket making it even heavier) it is very hard to push and steer. That is the reason I have been looking for a model that holds more weight than my daughter is now. She is 42 pounds (6 1/2 yrs. old) and I need to have one for the next two years as we will be going to WDW 2 years in a row. The one most suggested is the volo by maclaren. It will hold 55 pounds. I just wish there was a store in my area that sold them so I could check it out for myself. Good luck to the OP. I am keeping my eyes open also for anymore info. Most of the strollers only hold up to 40 pounds, a very few will hold 45. Good Luck!!

She doesn't mind riding in a stroller so I needed something that would last a while. So the Mac's go up to 55 pounds, are super light w/ a back strap. I bought the additional small bag that has 2 cup holders for the parents. I can't say enough about it.

I also recently bought the Mac Triumph for my son who is 52 lbs and 44 in tall. I tried him in some of the cheap strollers and they were too hard to push with him. My first trip to disney with the stroller will be in March so I can update but I also like that fact that it folds so compact like an umbrella stroller and has the carrying strap. I also purchased a Lionheart cupholder to put on it $5.99. I was also considering the Volo but found the Triump at my local Babiesrus and it had a nice recline and more support and padding. Good luck in your decision. I was faced with the same one and chose to purchase this one vs. renting at the parks because I figured it would be nice to use locally at the zoo, amusement parks, etc if our son gets tired and if he is walking I can put my stuff in it. Plus depending on where your room is at WDW you might have a long walk back from the bus stop and carrying a 50 lb child at the end of the day can be exhausting.

Oh well. I guess people here are just bound and determined to spend a ton on a stroller....

I have tested the cheaper strollers at different places and they ALL steer just fine no matter the weight. Flame me if you want but I just see this as another attempt for some people to be able to say they have the biggest and best. I have (rather had) a couple I have been friends with that is just like this. They could get the cheaper stuff that is just as good but they HAVE to have the most expensive.

Maybe that is not the case with some of you here but for the majority, it is. I have a hard time seeing how everyone that gets a Maclaren had a hard time pushing the cheaper ones when I have never had a problem at all. Yes, I tested them with tons of weight in them and my wife who is 5' 106lbs (soaking wet) can push them just as easily.

Oh well... It isnt my money.

GoofyDad - I take personal offense to your statement. I am not one to just want to have something more expensive to impress others. I used the cheaper strollers until my son's weight prevented me from using them. He generally is not in a stroller anymore but I kept a cheap umbrella stroller in my car just in case for the zoo, etc. and his weight made it very difficult for the wheels on the stroller to roll easily. Maybe you have been lucky with the choice of cheap strollers you used but I recently took my son to several stores including Target and ToysRus and tried every stroller under $50 that I could because I didn't want to fork out the money for a stroller I know he won't be in for long but they just did not work for us. You can make rash statements and generalize people all you want but that is not fair to others. I was only trying to help someone else to make their decision as I know how difficult it was for me to rationalize spending this much on a stroller for a 4 year old that won't be in it much other than WDW. I thought that was what this board was for and not to stereotype people with your harsh opinions that really did not help anyone. Hope you have a better day tomorrow and can be a little more kind.

I have been through quite a few strollers between my 2 children (from cheapo to not so cheapo). I do have a "light weight" umbrella type stroller with a canopy and cupholders and whatnot, but I have to admit.....it DOES hurt my wrists after pushing if for extended periods of time. Also, my dh is 6'7" and he is completely hunched over pushing these cheaper strollers.....we have just ordered our Maclaren recently in hopes of solving these problems...NOT to "show off" or whatever GoofyDad had orignally stated. And yes, I did read your whole post, and it was rather offensive, even if not intended.

No, we are not extravagent people by ANY means... but we see the purchase of our Maclaren as an investment as we do plan on having more kids and do not want to continue the junky stroller, replace it cycle any longer.

Sorry, I wanted to state my opinion....I thought that's what these boards were for.....and sorry I happened to get home from work just a little bit ago, so I wasn't able to put in my two cents worth earlier, at your convenience. I was stating my experience with cheaper strollers, so that MAYBE someone would benefit....not to antagonize YOU.

I know you said you don't want the hassle of renting but you may find it the best, easiest and even an affordable option. Renting is MUCH easier now and quicker and with a multiday rental its cheaper and you only fill out the forms on the first day for the length of stay.

I found when my dd was older it was much easier to pick one up at the park rather than luggin on the bus/tram/boat monorail. You can also grab a new one if yours gets wet and they are great for older and larger children, very easy to push.

Once my girls turned about 4 we used the rentals and that worked well for us. Generally we didn't need one in the am and navigating the parks was much easier without esp in MK. Later in the day or for evenings at Epcot we would rent as needed.

So if you don't want to spend the fortune for a stroller suited to a preschooler and won't be using it anywhere other than wdw, consider renting again! If not good luck stroller shopping.

How much cheaper is a multi day rental? I was calculating that 6 days of rental X $8 is $48. I believe that is the rate now for a single. Then of course you get a disney dollar back if you turn it in. If I go twice to disney (which we are planning to do- once this year and once next) then the $99 Maclaren Volo I am thinking about would be paid for, and I could resell the thing and come out ahead. If I have to rent twice in the next two years I am looking at pretty much the same price. The childs weight does matter- been there done that - and cheaper strollers that dont have a higher weight limit just lock up. I am on kid #3 here and have owned MANY strollers, although this is my first that is still in one at Disney at 7 yrs. (because she is small for her age) and that is why I was looking for some suggestions for a sturdy one to use for the next 2 years. GoofyDad shoud not get so upset. I am not looking for a Maclaren to make a "statement"! Show me a cheaper stroller that holds up to 55 pounds and I will be the first one to the store. That is why I posted about this also- to get Help and Suggestions.

You know, push a Maclaren or Peg Perego, and then go and push a Kmart Umbrella stroller. You'll see the difference.

Not to mention, why spend the money on a cheapo umbrella, when the weight of the child is going to put pressure on the wheels and you won't be able to push it anywhere. So after that it's useless, so you'll have to buy *another* umbrella stroller, and another and another.

It's your perogative to buy a cheap stroller, just like it's *my* perogative to spend *my* money on a stroller that will last forever.
