I have the Unofficial Guide to Disneyworld and it says that the rented strollers are often taken, and it's easy to get a replacement. Is this true? People just take your stroller? And what about the contents ( diaper bags, shopping bags, etc.) ???

I plan on taking our stroller for DD2 and renting one for DD3. Is this a good idea? Or do people also take your personal stroller, too? Leaving early on 8/24 and getting nervous about this, among other things. ( WILMA)

Any advice would be appreciated.

Yes, we only had a stroller 2x during our recent trip to WDW, the first, the Halloween party when they were FREE and it was taken after we were theer for less than 3 hrs (was supposed to be a reward for DD6 for walking so much and not complaining all week), WITH her bag of candy in it!! We never even tried to get another, too crowded to fight going for one, but agreed to rent her one the following day, if she would stop whining that it was taken.....next day at Epcot we had it for 5 hrs and noone touched it!

the fact that it was free probably added to their reason for taking yours but still that is pretty pathetic and can really put a damper on your day. I feel so sorry for your daughter. My daughters hardly get candy all year long except for Halloween, so they really would have thrown a fit. I will be furious if someone takes my stroller with my belongings in it. Did the book say that they will replace the stroller for free or for a fee? Do the strollers have a number or something? Do they give you a wristband? At the waterparks here in houston, when you rent a tube they give you a wristband. If you have a tube without a band, then they will take it away from you. (they are very strict about this!) Anyways... i have calculated my stroller rental fee and i will be spending about $100 for a double stroller for 5 days. I do not want to waste time getting another stroller because someone stole mine.

I guess I've been lucky. I have never had a stroller taken from me. Someone did steal our rented wheel chair. I had to go back to see if they had more chairs, but they were out. I now take a small chain and lock. If they want to carry the stroller or wheel chair, then more power too them.

aww... a wheelchair! that's awful! and of all places to steal a wheelchair! I will be renting a ECV for my dad, do these only work with keys or something?

We never had a stroller stollen at WDW , but we did at Sea World, but we knew the # and saw the person using it and got it back. At WDW your name is put on the stroller. We never left anything on it that couldn't easily be replaced and took all our purchases etc. with us on rides. The CM's do rearrange the strollers to make things neater by some attractions, so if you cannot find it where you left it, it might have been moved by a CM, just look around a bit.

We've never had a stroller go missing, however, we've also never gone at peak season or when the parks are packed. Having said that CM's will move strollers while you are on attractions and rides so you often have to look to figure out where they've moved the strollers to. We generally don't leave anything of value in the stroller and also tie a ribbon, cloth or something noticeable to the stroller so it is easily identiable and may discourage someone else from taking it in error.

If it does go missing you simply take the receipt you get when you rented to the exchange locations -- a couple in each park -- and they will give you a another stroller, no questions asked

We did have a rented stroller stolen. When we went to get our replacement, they were all gone- so we had to carry the two children.

never had our stolen. rented twice & took our personal one once. No problems @ all. Been when it was crowded & not so crowded.

We never leave anything in the buggy other than drinks...nothing we need.
As far as pkgs you can get them sent to your hotel for free or pick it up at the front of the park on your way out...much easier than toting on the rides.

Not had our stollen. We have done both, taken our own and rented. After doing both...we prefer to take our own. It is HARD to find your stroller in a sea of strollers that are identical even when we tie a bright ribbon on! Plus the CMs will rearrange your stroller for many attractions. I also have an expensive stroller that we take(I consider it expensive) a Mac TT and I was worried that someone might take it...but no one did(knock on wood for the next trip!!) I have seen where people would leave their cam corders in the stroller or merchandise and it wasn't bothered. We take advantage of the sending packages to the hotel, and keep everything else in the backback/diaperbag. Not had a problem with our last 3 trips. Have a magical trip! :wizard:

They will replace a stollen rental one for free if you show your receipt. We had our personal stroller stolen last year at Epcot. Security found it a few countries away minus the bag of things I had just bought.

We were at epcot when they had extra magic hours and were in universe of engery and someone took the rubber off the wheel of my own stroller. I was pushing my son along fine before we went on the ride, and I come out put him in the stoller and I could hardly push because the rubber was off the wheel,we looked around and could'nt find it. I was shocked someone would do that. We had 1 more day so I went to guest services and they gave me a free days rental, which was nice but I was out a $60.00 stroller that I had only been used about 10 times.

Yes I have had a rented stroller taken at Epcot we went in to see the candlelight processional and came back and it was gone. It was my first trip without Dh and I had to carry a very tired toddler all the way back around.
I have never had my own stroller taken and I also have never left anything in it.

During a sudden rain storm, my DH was sent to get our rented stroller from the line of strollers. He came back with a stroller, and I was putting our son in it when I noticed it wasn't ours!! It didn't have anything on it other than someone elses name on it, but in the pouring rain it was hard to see. The other family saw this happen, and got very mad even though my DH apologized.
It can happen. Especially with rented ones, because people just think that someone will grab yours then. (like my DH at the moment, but he will never think that way again! :teeth:)
We have used our own stroller on many occasions and have left our diaper bag, and things hanging off it and nobody has ever touched our belongings. We made sure to not leave things of value though. Many people had the same stroller we have from Target I noticed, so I liked leaving things on our stroller to make sure no one took it by accident.

In all of our trips we have never had our stroller, rented or owned, stollen. Ever. I read some of the responses and hope that they were truly isolated incidences. I would advise always taking your important items with you such as your camera and/or camcorder anyway. I sometimes leave our diaper bag and have never had it taken either. I hope these incidences are isolated ones. Note that the CM's do move stroller quite regularly. I hope this contributes to what you read. :flower:

I had my own single stroller and rented a double. All week at every park we left everything except our camera in it to go on rides and never had a problem. I never even considered someone taking it or my belongings. Several times as we were rushing for a ride we left it on the edge of stoller parking and came back to find the CM's had moved it to a different location nearby. It had our name on it, so it was not hard to find. Once we came out and hunted everywhere for our personal umbrella stroller and could not find it. It is a pretty common stroller and I saw many like it, so I assumed someone inavertantly took mine thinking it ws theirs. Just as I was about to give up, I found it on the other side of the walkway. If you can not find your stroller, first look at all the strollers at all nearby rides, because the CM's are constantly moving them to make more space and tidy things up. They don't give alot of thought to keeping it close to where you originally left it.
I also kept my airline tag with my name and cell phone number on my personal stroller all week in case someone did inavertantly take it they could call my cell phone when they realized it was not theirs. There are still way more good people in the world than bad, and I find it more enjoyable to go through life counting on this fact rather than troubling myself worrying about the few bad apples.

We have used a rented stroller many times and never had a problem. My DD is the only one who uses it. Mainly for when she gets tired. Most of the time we just pushed an empty stroller around, but it sure came in handy around 3:00 pm. Also we rented the double instead of the single to carry all of our belongings and purchases. (we stayed off property). I did have a couple of close calls when coming off a ride and I couldn't find our stroller, but as said before, the CM's move them and organize them neatly, so many times it wasn't where you left it. I think they're more apt to get taken when nothing is in them, so we always had some thing such as sweaters or drink bottles etc..left in it.

Well, when I went to WDW, we rented a stroller, "parked" it in the space, and then came back to see that it wasn't there! But who would want a stroller with our last name on it? Oh well, at least we only rented it

I took my own one year, then rented the next year. NEVER had any problems. I had read on here or on Allears... can't remember which site, but it gave a very helpful hint that made it easy to find our stroller in the sea of thousands.

Go to Walmart or Kmart and find an inexpensive brightly colored scarf. Tie the scarf on the stroller handle and off you go. Makes it easy to find when they all look alike (or at least seem to).

Now that DS is 6, I'm hoping our stroller days are over... but hey, if he wants one to rest in... I'm all for it. It is HIS trip, afterall! pirate:
