Strollers at Disney--Do they EVER clean/sanitize them?

We leave in 6 days--we are taking 3 kids with us (we have 6 but are taking the older 3)--ages 6, 5, and 4--we plan to rent a double stroller from Disney--BUT I am grossed out by thinking they are never cleaned--does anyone know if they clean them after use? I plan on bringing Lysol spray and Clorox Wipes to wipe it down but I will need a lot b/c we are renting a double stroller! Anyone with thoughts on this or ideas how I can clean it to try to keep us from getting a TON of germs just from the stroller? Thanks!

why not rent a double from outside the park.. then you just clean it once during your trip... I believe its cheaper..

We are leaving in a few weeks too and I was just thinking about this. I was planning on bringing extra clorox wipes for cleaning the stroller. I'm not sure what the parks do to clean the strollers, but even if they are sanitized, I would still wipe mine down just in case...

Actually with kids as old as hers it is exactly the same thing. It is just a seat they will be sitting in same as rides.

Are you going to wipe them down every single time they get back into them? because while you are on a ride or in a show countless people could be touching or crawling, etc. on the stroller.

I'm not going to wipe down anything. I'll be bringing my own stroller as we will need it in the airport and the resort too (my kids will be 21 months and 7 months).

The reason I think it's not the same thing is that the kids before hers could have been younger and there is much more of a chance that a kid spit up or had some other bodily fluid incident in a stroller than on a ride, and if on a ride it would be cleaned/sanitized. Also generally kids eat in a stroller, not so much on a ride.

I agree with Mouse House Mama... Your kids are old enough that they won't be chewing/mouthing the stroller, so I wouldn't be any more worried about germs on the stroller than on any of the millions of other surfaces they'll come in contact with on the trip.

I wipe them down when we rent. If you use clorox wipes or even baby wipes, you don't need the lysol also. and just one or two wipes per stroller should be sufficient.

I also wiped the shopping cart before I would put the seat cover in.

Thanks everyone for your replies! I decided to rent a double City Mini from Orlando Strollers. It is actually cheaper AND I can control cleaning it in the room before we even venture out each day. I do think the stroller is a little different than the rides in that they will spend more time in it, they will probably have snacks in it, our stuff will be all over it....I kind of look at it like "home base" for the parks. I know I can only do so much to keep us healthy. I guess each person has a different comfort level with all the germs. We have all recently had H1N1 so I am hoping we have built some immunity to it--going through that was NOT fun. It has hit hard here in SC. Anyway, thanks again for your responses!!

I think they are totally different. My 2 yr old can really mess things up, especially when he is eating. He is not able to ride on many of the rides and wouldn't be able to pass the germs on that way. I would sterilize the stroller for my children, but I guess I wouldn't have thought to sterilize it when I turn it in as I'd expect them to do that. But if they don't, then anything my children pass on to the stroller would go to the next family (if they don't wipe it down themselves). When my kids ride on the rides, they don't put their hands all over the place and they aren't eating as they do it!

when I worked at the zoo and did wagon/stroller rentals we were required to spray this disinfecting spray and wipe everything down really well. I'm sure disney does something similar, but totally wouldn't blame anybody for doing it themselves as well.

H1N1 is an airborne virus - so even if you wipe every solid surface with an antiviral wipe, you're not getting much protection from the virus. Even using a lysol spray (unless you are going to walk around the World with a can spraying in front of you) isn't going to make that much difference. You've just got to keep the kids' hands away from mucus membranes, and keep the hands as clean as possible.

Schmeck--just as info,and you can find this on the cdc site and flu.gov--H1N1 and other viruses, live on surfaces 2-8 hours. so if you touch it then touch your mouth/eyes/nose it can get into your mucous membranes. So do be careful what you touch and cleaning surfaces does matter. We have already had the H1N1 so I am hoping we now have immunity--BUT there are a TON of other nasty bugs out there to get!!! Anyway, just wanted to share the length of time they are saying it lives on surfaces--and Lysol/Clorox wipes will kill it.

I have to agree with pp. Sure - you could bring some Clorox wipes and do a quick wipe-down if you want and it'll make you feel better. But truly, are you going right to the DUmbo (or similar) line when you walk in? The place that they're sitting and touching on that ride is bound to have just as many germs as the stroller. So they'll get them anyway.

I've watched Disney CMs doing this as you drop off your strollers.

There are germs everywhere. All those kids that sneezed into their hands get on the rides and touch the same stuff everyone else does. Plus, whether or not you bring your own stroller or not, chances are it's going to get moved a few times a day. Are you going to wipe it down everytime they get into it? Then you've got all the tables, benches, etc. I'd start stressing the importance of keeping your hands out of your mouth instead.

Another thing I wanted to mention was that every time we are at WDW we see squirrels on people's strollers in the stroller parking areas. We have seen them take food out of people's strollers and run along them. That to me is way grosser. They pee while running and carry disease. Of course I try to block it all out and pretend magic fairies are watching over the strollers.

HAHA. I have this irrational fear of birds, and whenever we go to Disney, especially when there were seagulls all over while I was eating outside and I was convinced they would come snatch my food, my DH tells me it's okay they are Disney birds so you don't have to worry. And even though it's just as irrational as the fear itself, that sort of works for me.
