Does this happen? I just got a new Peg Perego double stroller. Do people really steal strollers. I also got the stroller fans. Should I hide them in the basket?

Thanks.

6 MORE DAYS UNTIL DISNEY!!!

We had no problem with ours, granted it was an evenflo and not a Peg Pergo. There have been a couple of threads on here though about stroller theft. It seems like it's more common among the rental strollers since they all look alike. If you're worried about it, put something on it to make it easily identifiable. HTH!

Have fun in Disney!

princess: I wouldn't worry about theft if the stroller but hide the fans. We usually unclip our and put it in the bottom of the basket under something.

Personally, I will be buying a bicycle lock for my next trip--there's no way I wanna be stuck in the middle of Epcot again with a tired toddler and no stroller. It ruined our whole day, but I'm glad I didn't have anything in it. This will be for rental or one brought from home.

my mom brought a stroller with us the last time we went and we had no problems but i would advise that you would take any personal objects and valuables with you when you park the stroller and hide the fans. You can never be too safe and sad to say some people still have sticky hands at even the happiest place on earth.

I just bought an INSTEP Safari Double Jogger TODAY!!! Let me tell you I spent a PRETTY PENNY on it, and if it got stolen I would really seriously go nuts in the middle of DISNEY and you would be able to hear me from miles around. :teeth:

I am going to buy one of those bicycle locks as well..

I had a graco side by side last year, but over the weekend DH popped the curb with both the girls in it and the wheel popped off and it is no longer under warranty. According to Graco they won't sell a replacement wheel which I think is a CROCK !!!! SO since DH is a runner we went ahead and splurged on the jogger...It made me want to vomit!!! :guilty:

Now this is just a guess, but you might want to e-mail WDW about this one.

There are certain stroller parking areas, and there are CMs near all of the busy or popular areas whose job is to move and "park" strollers for safety and crowd control. Therefore, it is POSSIBLE (although I have no specific info) that WDW would not permit you to lock your stroller. In other words, it's POSSIBLE they may deem in immovable object to be a safety hazard. Then again, they never told me last May that I couldn't bring my mother-in-law to the parks .... :lmao:

I was going to say the same thing about the locks. If you want to lock it, I'd find a way to run the locks through the front wheels so that it can be moved but it has to be tilted back and rolled on back wheels only. That way if a CM needs to move it, they can but it will strongly discourage anyone from just walking off with it b/c it's going to draw attention to them. It's not 100% preventable but if you lock the stroller TO something, you may be told that is not allowed. There isn't something to lock it to at all attractions either so something that can lock just one or just the front wheels would be best.

That said, I've travelled with Peg Perego and Maclaren strollers that were not cheap and had no problem. DH had to roll his eyes at me and say I had some sort of issue that I was aware of this information, but we parked our Mac stroller next to a Bugaboo Frog outside the Lion King show at AK. That is an $800 stroller. It was still there no problem when we came back out. That is a stroller I wouldn't likely bring with me though! We did see plenty of strollers that are in the $300 neighborhood while there so it is not uncommon to have nice strollers there. And a tip...if you have travel insurance, it would cover the cost if something is stollen on the trip. Your homeowners insurance might as well. Doesn't help with the INCONVENIENCE part though.

I was so happy to read your post about a lock! I thought i might be nuts for thinking of it. I wonder if its ok to do it. Do you think it would be possible to lock it up with your typical bike lock? Have you done it?:rolleyes1

Lots of people have ideas about marking theirs with something. The best idea I read about was a grocery bag with a dirty diaper!!!! :lmao: Nobody will take that!

I think as PP had said, most of the "thefts" occur with the rental strollers because they are all identical. We had an issue with DH ECV-first and last time we rented one from Disney. We even had drinks and a sipper cup in our basket and the obligatory paper sign with our name on it. Disney was good about replacing our stuff asap, down to our drinks! Never an issue with our stroller, but we attach one of those personalized license plates to ours with zip ties-we do the same with DH ECV now too. :thumbsup2

Hey guys,
We just returned from Disney on 6/1 and we decided to take two strollers. One nice Graco stroller that is easy to fold but still has the basket for storage underneath, and our umbrella stroller. We took our Graco to the park everyday because my two year old needed it. We soon found out that my 5 and 7 year old fought over the other stroller the whole time so we decided to leave it in our room on the last two days. When we returned the last day our umbrella stroller was gone. We asked at the front desk and of course they have no idea what happened to it, nor where they to be held responsible for it. I was not to upset because it was only a $10 umbrella stroller, but had it been our Graco I would have been very upset. Just be careful about leaving it. That being said, we did find that in the parks as long as you parked in stroller parking areas there was a CM watching and parking all of the strollers and moving them around as room became available.

:rotfl: My dh would have done the same thing, right after he had a heart attack learning that a stroller could cost more than his first car. He really has no clue how much high end baby gear can cost.

But seriously, that's going to be my anti-theft strategy. Park my Volo next to something a lot nicer and hopefully any would be theives will go for the better stroller ;) All in all, I'm not going to worry too much about stroller theft. If it happens, it happens, and we'll deal with it. I do like the cable lock idea, though. You can't thread it through the wheels on a Volo, but if I can work out another way I might bring one just in case.

I have locked my front wheels before (Evenflo travel system) and I will do it again on this trip (Peg Perego P3). As others said, you just can't lock it TO something. I only had one CM give me grief (tried to tell me it wasn't allowed) about it and I did it anyway. I said "It is my stroller, it is my vacation, I am the guest and I want to lock my FRONT wheel. You can still move it if necessary." I want to say it was at Tough to be a bug - it was something where we would be inside for a while and that made me nervous.

nisi - that will only work as long as the CM don't move your stroller - which they do very frequently.

ETA -
If you're gate checking your stroller check out this thread about an inexpensive bag (under $15!) - works for the large P3 umbrella style strollers, so it will work with almost any umbrella style stroller I think!

Two years ago we came out of the Peter Pan ride and couldn't fine our stroller. We looked where we parked it and it just wasn't around. However, there was a stroller that was exactly like ours, only older (it was a cheap $15 umbrella stroller). One of the handles looked like it had been chewed on. Our stroller had our airline tags on it - name, etc. We talked to a CM and they said to wait until the end of the day and see if that older one was still there. So, we hauled the kids around without the stroller and sure enough, at closing time there was one lone, old umbrella stroller in the Peter Pan area. We sold it at a garage sale last year. All around WDW we kept looking for our stroller. The kids kind of made a game of it after a while.

Yikes! Sounds like those other folks saw an opportunity to trade up-cause I don't see how you can't notice that your stroller suddenly is NOT chewed up on the handles. :sad2: Sorry that happened to you guys.

Our umbrella stroller was stolen at the POC ride. It was day 1 of 12 so we were irritated. It was stolen at 8 pm while the park was open until 10:30 pm. It was never returned to lost and found so I really don't think it was an accident.

I know the value of a double peg perego, so I would invest a few bucks in a lock for front wheels to make you feel a little better and hopefully deter theft.

There is always the chance it can be taken. So many strollers there that it's unlikely, but a brand new double peg perego stroller? Well, you never know. Buy a lock and then you can worry less.

We used 2 Ohio State rain ponchos to cover our stroller while we went in to see Philarmagic.

When we came out the ponchos were gone and the stroller was soaked!
