Oh we have definitely tried the WD40 several, several times and it usually works for a little bit and then it starts squeaking again! It has been used and abused over the past 6 years and it was time for us to purchase an umbrella stroller for this trip. I still have the other stroller (can't seem to part with it!), but it's also one of the travel system kinds and won't fold up small enough to carry on and off the bus. I actually purchased the Maclaren Volo stroller at Babies R Us this week and so far I love it and so does my son! 
He's been climbing in and out of it since we got it! I bought it for $99 which was $10 more than it was listen online for, but then I would have had to pay for shipping. Anyways, I love the new one and even my DD will get to use it some since it goes up to 55 lbs. Thank you to everyone for such wonderful advice!
