Hi,
I am going to DL for the first time with my 2 girls. I was going to bring my stroller from home but the thought of lugging it the 2 kids and out luggage through the airport is not pretty,LOL. My thought is that I could rent one for the 3 days we are in DL, can anyone tell me if you can rent them in the park? how big they are and if someone has a picture can you post it?
Thank you
Lisa

You can rent them at DLR. They are a single jogger style stroller.

I (used to) prefer to bring my own stroller for these reasons -

It is a double jogger, so both my little boys fit in it.
It has a storage basket underneath, so jackets, lunch, snacks and stuff fit in it.
I could use it AT the airport to schlep the boys and their stuff and the carryon in it.
I didn't have to carry one or both of them back to the hotel every night because they were tired of walking.

I just gate check it, so I have it while we are waiting for our flight and then have it right after our flight so we can get to baggage claim quickly.

HTH

The biggest reason to bring your own is the walk to the hotel at the end of the day. Disneyland strollers can't even go into Downtown Disney, and at park closing I think they ask they not leave the park at all (if park hopping between DLR and DCA you can keep the same stroller).

You can rent the stroller from either front gate of either DLR/DCA for something like $18 a day...BUT (this was deal breaker for us) you cannot bring the stroller out of the parks into downtown disney or walking back to your hotel, one of the spots that it is greatly appreciated at the end of a busy day at the park!

We went to a website (diapers.com) and ordered a single umbrella stroller for like $15, nothing fancy and they have a "free for first time buyers" delivery service, have it delivered to your hotel! For Free! I am not sure what they are now though, perhaps spend "x" dollars and get free shipping.:confused3

At the end of our trip we just left with our hotel and they usually "regift" it to another family in need!

Also, we found out that if we were stuck the store on our hotel site had an umbrella stroller for sale for something like $30.

I hope that helps! Have a great time!

We often use our own as it helps at the airport with hauling kids and luggage. We also picked up an umbrella stroller from Target, I think it was 12.00 Target is just north of Disneyland a few blocks. When we were done with it we gave it to a family that had arrived at the DLR and looked like they could make good use of it.

Thank you for all the responses. The umbrella stroller idea is out my little on is to big for them. We are staying at California spa and resort, is that a big walk to do at the end of the day?

In case you are still wanting to see a pic of the strollers this is what they look like. How old are your kids? We picked up a bigger umbrella stroller that holds up to 50lbs for about $50. At $15 a day to rent one, bringing our own worked best for us. It is definitely nice to be able to push the stroller back to the hotel. Sleepy kids are HEAVY even just back to Harbor or GCH. Here is a link to one similar to the one we bought. HTHs :goodvibes

I have debated over this issue many times and I think I've come to the conclusion that I'd rather lug my own stroller around than have to worry about getting one there. I didn't like the thought of not having one to walk back to the hotel. We're staying at GCH but at the end of the day, the last thing I'm going to want to do is carry my DD in my arms, even if the hotel is the closest to the parks. I had visions of getting there and them not having any strollers left to rent since it's a "first come, first served" basis. Knowing that we'll be taking mid day breaks, and not being able to take the stroller back to the hotel we would have to go back to the stroller rental to get another one... and again the fear that none would be left. It was one of the free perks that came with our Disney Visa when we originally got it. Now it's a reduced fee (if I remember correctly) but it's still another fee and I'd rather doing something a little more fun with that money.

Plus, I like knowing how I work my stroller. I know where and how everything fits into it and my DD knows it's her's. That may seem odd, but sometimes a little comfort from home can go a long way, even if it's in the form of a stroller.

That is what we did too. Very similar stroller too. My dd is getting older and our old stroller is on it's last legs. I don't know how much we will use it, but I figured it would help to rest the bags on too, and if we don't need it we don't need to bring it everywhere. It really isn't too big of a pain in the airport. In fact you are better off paying sky cap to help you out and not move your luggage around yourself and bring your own stroller.

Plus at the airport a lot of times they usher you through the shorter lines when you have a stroller. ;)

Oh and at DL you don't need to fold your stroller up like you do when using buses at WDW.

I did a blog post about strollers! When you say that you're staying at the California Spa and Resort, do you mean the Grand Californian? If so, it's an extremely easy walk from the parks.

As other people have pointed out, the primary disadvantage is that you cannot take it outside of the bag check, so not back to your room or hotel or Downtown Disney at all. Depending on where you're staying, this could be a huge problem. If you're actually staying in the Grand Californian it's not as big of a deal.

We travel quite frequently and find it much easier to actually use the stroller in the airport and check it at the gate. However, we discovered last month that American Airlines has changed their stroller policy! Their official policy is here, but the gist of it is that if the stroller is considered bulky or weighs more than 20 pounds, it has to be checked at baggage with your suitcases and not at the gate. We have a City Mini (which is actually the same as the rental strollers at DL except the DL ones are stripped down). The enforcement of this policy seems to be hit and miss. LAX didn't care at all, Dallas/Ft. Worth mentioned there was a new policy but didn't say anything beyond that, Reagan National we actually had to physically remove DS, fold the stroller, and have them weigh it (18 lbs) before they would let us take it. Chicago (ORD) were also sticklers about the policy. We were told at Reagan National that ALL jogging strollers or 3-wheeled strollers and double strollers were forbidden, though the policy doesn't specifically say that. The policy says "large" strollers and that seems to be a matter of interpretation. It was a real hassle for sure, so keep that in mind if you're flying American. We have never had that problem or heard of that problem on any other airline though. The good news, I guess, is that if you check it at baggage they don't make you pay for it. And any airline will let you check the stroller at check-in if you don't want to carry it all the way through the airport.

Tons of people just buy a cheaper one at Target (which is actually a few blocks south of DLR on Harbor ;)). If you have a car, that's not a terrible option. And tons of people abandon them in DTD when they leave. No joke--when I worked there and the store closed at Midnight, we'd get out and about 2:00am and very frequently see these sad little abandoned umbrella strollers :lmao:. Oh, and one time there was an Igloo cooler with a note that said "PLEASE TAKE ME" :rotfl:.

But I digress. Personally, I really like having my own stroller. I know how to steer it, I know my DS will be comfortable in it, and we don't have much of a problem carrying it around. It's been pretty much everywhere. If you don't want to carry it in the airport, just check it as baggage and get it on your way out.

Hey there fellow Saskatchewanite :-) (I'm in the queen city)
quick question, was the target in walking distance of dlr? we're staying at the Hojo and wanted to see if it was worth getting one. my youngest is almost 6, but thought it may be useful to haul stuff around in, and give them a rest whenever they needed.

It's about a mile and a half and I personally wouldn't walk it from the park, BUT you can take the bus to the Toy Story parking lot and it's about 3 quarters of a mile from there.
