I am leaving for Disney this Friday with my daughter and her family. She has rented a stroller off site and is wondering if there have been a lot of stolen carriage as of late. The company she is renting from indicated that there has been and suggests she gets the insurance for $25. Just wanted to know if anyone has seen/heard of this problem. Thanks

I too would like to know as I will most likely be renting for our upcoming trip. Good question - thanks for posting!

I haven't been made aware of any problem; no one's posted recently about it; who is she renting from? I rent from an offsite vendor, but no one there has ever said anything about insurance.

I'm not as familiar with them b/c I rent from Shannon at orlanostrollerrentals
I've talked with people over the last couple of weeks though using her an she hasn't mentioned anything about needing insurance.

Thanks for the info. She's not against getting the insurance - but wanted to check if it was for real or a sort of "scam".

We're renting from Shannon in 6 days, and just today I got an email from her about theft related to strollers. She also said that she now offers insurance for $25. Here's a copy & paste of the email:

I am currently notifying all of our customers that strollers in Disney have been a target for thieves. Please do not leave any valuable personal items in the stroller while it is unattended. In addition, when you park the stroller, you may remove one of the rear wheels and take it with you (can be done easily by squeezing a button next to the wheel). This will make the stroller not so appealing to thieves. If your stroller is taken, please notify Disney security and us immediately. You may ask the closest cast member how to help you with this.

Our rental agreement states that the customer is responsible for the stroller while it is in their possession. Many customers have been inquiring about theft insurance. After listening to our customers' needs, we are now offering the opportunity to purchase damage and theft insurance. By purchasing the insurance for $25, the customer will not be charged the cost of replacing a stolen or damaged stroller. If you are interested in this, you may make your payment on our website under the tab “Rental Insurance.”

Have a great vacation!

Yours truly,

Shannon Tanner

Thanks so much good to know that others are saying the same thing - I think insurance is the way to go! Enjoy your upcoming trip~

We were in Disneyworld in October of 2008. Our stroller was totally stolen. It wasn't even a really nice one. A chicco cortina umbrella stroller. We went on a ride, came back and it was gone!
We are going back June 8th and are wondering what to do for a stroller for my 18 month old DS?!
