Stroller recommendations - "larger and older" child.

Heading to Disney in December, but I'm already trying to plan ahead!

My daughter will have just turned 5. She currently weighs around 35 pounds. Most strollers have a weight limit of around 40 lbs. I know she won't be able to walk the parks for the entire day.

My son will be 15 months during this trip, his first.

So, any stroller recommendations for a "larger" child. She's only in the 50th percentile for weight, but by then she'll probably outweigh the recommendations for most strollers.

I don't want to invest $200 in a double stroller to be used for one week at Disney. Because we're driving, I also don't want to take two large strollers and not sure if she'll fit in an umbrella stroller.

Has anyone ever use those sit and ride strollers? My concern with these is that she won't be able to lay back and nap if she needed.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.

I have a 5 yr old ds and 3 yr old dd and we use a regular Babies R Us umberlla stroller ($20) and a Maclaren Quest. I started doing this around when my son was 3 1/2 I think- I, as you, didn't want to buy yet another worthless stroller!! The Maclaren has a higher weight limit (over 50 pounds if I remember correctly. My 5 year old is still very content in a stroller, so we take the two of them. If my dd wants to nap, I will have ds in the regular umbrella or have him walk for a while so she can be a bit more comfortable. This has worked well for us and the Maclaren is great for either of them- money well spent and you can usually find a pretty good deal on them on the web if you get the previous year's model!

Good luck!

both my DS 1.5 & my DD 3.5 are over 35lbs and absolutely cannot be pushed in a cheap umbrella stoller.

we just bought two new 2007 maclaren volos off ebay for $57 each + shipping. they fold up just like an umbrella stroller, but they also have a shoulder carry strap, a small basket underneath, a large sunshade, and a rain cover. they say 55lbs on them, but i've seen many others who say they will hold 65lbs or more. it was a bit of money, but for less than $150 we have two nice strollers. we will be at disney for 9 days, so even if we only used them there, we will still be saving money over renting a double during the trip alone.

I second the Maclaren Volo. I just purchased one off of Ebay for my DD who is 6 1/2, about 45 lbs and 48 inches. It is great. Really light weight and has the nice strap and rain cover. The only thing is that it does not recline. I think the next step up is the Triumph which does. Well worth the money and great resell value.

If you don't find a stroller that you think will be good for her, another option would be to take one for the younger child and just rent one for DD on the days she needs it, most likely MK and Epcot days. We brought a stroller for DD on our last trip, but she has definitely outgrown it and since she is at 45lbs. I decided not to look for another stoller and switch to rental for her. Good luck with your search.

I was planning on renting a single stroller for my kids to share. I then saw that the single one was only up to 18 months. Is this true. My kids are 6 and 4. I really don't want to spend 18 a day when I can spend 10!

Thanks

Disney strollers are very good for older kids. :thumbsup2 Perhaps what the 18months thing was supposed to say is that they might not be the best for kids under 18months since they are not padded and don't recline for the babies to nap in.:confused3

We went last year and rented the double stroller for DD's who were 3 and 7-1/2 at the time. Even when they both wanted to walk, we could still keep all the packages, bags, etc in the stroller. They will be 4 and 8-1/2 this year, plan to rent again. It does get expensive, but for the comfort and not having to carry my 4 year old through the park, and pack the stroller through plane changes etc.... it is totally worth it. JMO We've already spent so much to get there, what's another 100 bucks? LOL
