Our family is going to WDW 5/14-5/21.(15MORE DAYS!!!! :cool1: ) We have a 6 1/2yo and a (young) 4 1/2 yo. We figure we will need we will need strollers but not sure if it's easier to bring 2 singles or a double stroller. I can see benefits to both. I have decide aganist renting from Disney because of the cost and hassle of having to rent in the park. Also thought it would be nice to have strollers when we might do alot of walking other places besides the park. Whats peoples experience been on this issue?

Here's my very humble opinion.......WE have been going to WDW every year since our girls were 1 & 2. The year they were 4 & 5, we decided that renting the strollers was a huge hassle and quite expensive. So, we chose to purchase 2 inexpensive umbrella strollers when we arrived, at a Kmart. They were awesome! Very easy to get in and out of quickly, yet provided their legs a break when they needed it. We found that they really wanted to walk a lot themselves and when they were tired, the strollers were there. You definitely need your own for DTD as well. They do not recline but if they fell asleep while stolling, we took that opportunity to find a nice shady spot and we would lean the stroller back and let them nap. :earsgirl:

I saw a post about ties that you could purchase that tie 2 single umbrella strollers together. Does anyone know where you can purchase them? Also do they work or are they kind of a hassle? Whats everyones experience been? Thanks ahead for the advice!

I've seen them at babies-r-us. I've heard many mixed reviews on them, never used them myself. I have friends you have said they are not very sturdy and a big pain, and I've heard they are wonderful. It's just one of those things I think you need to decide for yourself.

If you go with two singles consider if you will ever have to split up and one of you has both kids (this would happen to me when DH would go on something like TOT and the kids and I weren't riding). Also, you're oldest is 6 1/2 so will probably be walking a lot (maybe even you're other child too). So do you want to push around two empty strollers or one empty double?

We've done it both ways and I prefer to bring the double. I know a lot on the boards don't like the double strollers but I never had a problem with ours getting on/off the boat, running into people, etc.

Whatever you decide, have a wonderful trip! :wave2:

I think we are leaning towards 2 single umbrella strollers with stroller connectors that can be removed if needed. I know the connectors have had mixed reviews but we'll give them a shot. In some ways they provide more flexability. Still having made our final decesion. Thanks everyone for the continued feedback!!

we have been going through the same thing, rent or bring from home.. the dilemna has been ongoing... we think we finally have the solution we went to Kmart today and puchased two lightweight strollers that recline, have a cupholder, canopy and a basket for only about 18 bucks... we have have the connectors and will use them as a double when needed and split up if we have to... The reason Im writing this is because we hit one tiny little snag in our plan.. when our three year old got in the stroller , well she's almost too big.. so since your kids are older you may want them to try out the stroller in the store if possible to make sure they are not too tall.. we made some minor adjustments and ours will work... So .. good luck!!!

we have kids 11, 9 & 6. While I knew we would need one for when 6yr old was tired, I tried in vain to find a stroller to FIT her. She is of average height and her head would push up on all the canopied strollers we tried and her head would also hang out the back. So, we decided to rent a double stroler at each park for $15/day and we could use the stroller pass at the other parks too at no addistional charge for that day of use. It was the BEST $45 we spent for 3 days. DD6 stayed in it all day and shared it w/ DS9 & DS11. Heck, I even sat in it during the parade and parent swaps. It had plenty of room for my kids, backpack and the cooler. Oh yeah, we also got one Disney dollar back each time we returned it. There was really no hassle getting it rented either. The had a CM outside the gate at MK who wrote up the pass and you just picked up the stroller w/o waiting in the nasty snake line.

We have 3 children (ds almost 13, ds almost 5, and dd 2). After much debate, we've decided to take 2 small, cheap umbrella strollers on our May trip. The cost of renting strollers for 8 days just seemed ridiculous -- especially when we're driving to WDW and have plenty of space. We also know that dh and I know that there will be plenty of times when one of us will be heading for the "big kid" rides while the other goes the opposite direction. We have bigger and nicer strollers we could take, but the umbrella strollers are so lightweight and easy to tote around. As well, we won't worry about anyone stealing them.
