Stroller question

we are going to Disney in a few weeks. We are bringing our BOB stroller and my SIL will have her uppa baby stroller. My stroller was close to $600 and I know my SIL was even more. I plan on bringing my snowboard lock with me to prevent theft of the strollers. I have read some stories about people going to the parks and stealing strollers and selling them on Craigslist or going to the parks with a cheap umbrella stroller and leaving with a nice one. Is it true they will not allow you to lock the stroller. What will they do if I do lock the strollers together and park them with the other strollers.

i've never heard of either of those things happening.

people do not go to disney world to steal strollers.
they go to spend time with their family.

my thought is if you are that concerned about having your valuables (your $600+ stroller is quite an expensive item) stolen then don't take them to the parks.

either rent a stroller or bring a cheaper one.

you are not allowed to lock your stroller at disney world.

the CM's need to be able to move it in order to make room for other strollers.

if you put a lock on it you'll immediately be told to take it off or not park your stroller. if you can't park your stroller you can't go on many attractions.

no matter what you do be sure to have something that identifies your stroller as being yours so that there is no confusion.
put a luggage tag on it with your info.
and put a colorful scarf or ribbon on it too.

I took my BOB duallie with us in November and never had a problem. There were lots of them in the parks. I have heard very few stories of people having them stolen, it does happen, but I didn't really worry about it. I did have someone more it once in a while. I know some people lock the wheels on theirs, however I don't think you should lock them together because the CM's will occasionally have to move them. Maybe lock them separately.

I was curious about this rule, so I Googled, and this article gave me a good laugh.

Sorry to say that my cousin had her BOB stolen in October at MK. It was a huge pain to have to deal with and wasted a lot of their park time, not to mention they were out a very expensive stroller. They had to wait a day to make sure it wasn't found over night once the park was empty, then they had to deal w/ Disney security and I'm not even sure what else happened. They did end up getting a couple of FP's for their trouble and I think they also gave them free park admission for a day for a future visit. If they don't allow you to lock them, I would maybe mark them with a lot of obnoxious bright colored ribbon, or something like that. A thief isn't going to want to steal a stroller that the owner could instantly identify and also isn't going to take the time to remove whatever you put on it.

I've brought my uppababy vista and my city elite double. I never had a problem. That said you can lock the strollers but they cm has to be able to move them. I would suggest a bike lock or stroller lock with a cable and lock the back two wheels together. The cm can move it but it would be difficult to steal without someone noticing it. I would be more worried about people taking things from the stroller than the stroller itself.

Do a search for stolen strollers. It does happen. I am not going to rent one of those garbage strollers. My Bob is a lot better. Read a story where a guy parked his expensive stroller with all the other stroller and took the raft over to the Tom saw island. Came back where stroller was no where to be found.

Yea I think I will lock each stroller separate.

i've actually seen the bolt cutters used once which is why i strongly advise not locking the stroller to anything.
i've also witnessed countless guests trying to argue with the CM's about wanting to use wheel locks.
they were told just what i said in my previous post. either don't lock it or don't park it.

Might consider renting one from a third party vendor, like City Strollers. They are really nice and reasonably priced, plus pickup/delivery right to hotel lobby.

There are outside companies like Kingdom Strollers and Apple Strollers that you can rent strollers from. Kingdom Strollers had City Minis, City Selects ad BOBs (last I checked anyway), Apple rents City Minis. We have always taken this route and rented from these types of companies to avoid worrying about our stroller getting stolen.I would not, personally, bring such an expensive stroller to the parks.

Yea I mark it with something. That along with a lock for the rear wheels we should be fine.

I read a story somewhere online where a lady was busted by Disney security for stealing strollers because they saw her enter and exit the park several times with a stroller. Well she got greedy and one stroller she stole was spotted by the owner who notified security. Security followed the lady out to the parking lot where they stopped her at her truck which was full of stolen strollers. The police was called and she was taken away.

We drive to the parks since we live in Miami. Waste in my opinion to rent a stroller.

That's fine. :confused3. The post I quoted seemed to have an issue with the quality of Disney rentals, not with renting in general, so I just wanted to offer better rental options.

Personally, I'd rather spend appx $40 total renting from Apple Strollers for a week than risk such an expensive stroller. The peace of mind is worth that to me, but you don't agree that's OK too :goodvibes

How many thousands of strollers are in disney parks a day. You just have to minimize the chance that yours will be the one stolen. Use a lock, don't leave anything valuable in it. Park it where its suppose to be.

On my last two trips I've put a simple cable lock through the rear wheels and never had a problem with the CM's or anyone. They were always able to move it fine since the CM's are only moving them a short distance with no heavy kid sitting in it. I was never told not to do it either.

It would have been difficult to steal, not impossible, but difficult since the rear wheels wouldn't roll. I'm sure a determined thief would have something to cut the cable but a casual thief would go for something easier.

So that's my recommendation to you for your situation. Don't lock the strollers together or lock them to anything stationary so that the CM's can still move them. Expect your lock to get banged up because of them moving them and it dragging on the ground. But I'd rather a banged up lock than dealing with having no stroller!

I think you're worrying about the wrong things.

We bring a Maclaren Quest (probably the most common stroller in the park) and we've never worried about having it stolen. Granted, not a $600 stroller, but still a step up for someone who didn't bring one and doesn't want to pay to rent one for their tired kid at the end of the day. I wouldn't want to bring a $600 stroller to Disney because of the lack of covered parking and likelihood it would get soaked through in an afternoon rainstorm. There is very little in the way of covered stroller parking in Disney.

It sounds like you need a cheaper stroller for theme parks.

We have a Mountain Buggy Plus One, >$600, but we feel we've gotten more than our money's worth over the years having 3 kids, one with special needs. Anyway, we brought it twice to Disney on several-day trips, and to other parks like Legoland. Leave it with a purse/diaper bag clipped on the back (no valuables inside) and have never had a problem. Likewise, we take it on the plane as a gate check and have never had a problem there either.

For the record I have never seen another MB Plus One, ever. I don't understand why. They are immensely better in crowds than the MB or BOB side by side doubles. It is almost the same footprint as a single jogging stroller, yet it is a double. And we have a kick board attachment for the back that the oldest occasionally hopped on when he got tired or if we were walking fast.

Actually the Plus One would be a great double stroller for those companies to rent for Disney parks because it is not such a wide load.

We take our phil and teds stroller (double, it is a good $1000NZD) and have had similar concerns. We took a bike lock with the intent of running it through the back wheels but got sick of the hassle. I did hide a name label inside of it so if we were in a disagreement with someone over whose it was security could easily clear it up.
I also assume that travel insurance would cover it.
Now i'm not so worried ours has seen 3 kids, has faded etc so I bet it wouldn't be a top target :)
