I am flying US Airways to Orlando next week and wanted to know how everyone handles their strollers. Do I need to get a bag and check it and count it as one of my two pieces of luggage?

Thanks in advance!

Not sure about US Air, but on Delta we used "gate check". You may have to fold it up to run through the x-ray machine. When you get to the gate, obtain a "gate check" tag from the desk and attach it to the stroller. You can roll it down the ramp and leave it by the door to the plane. When you get off, it will be waiting there.

You can gate check it. When you check your luggage, ask for a gate check. Sometimes they give it to you, sometimes they make you wait till just before you board.

Wheel your stroller through security (must now fold it & slide it through the scanner). When you are at the end of the passenger connection, just before you actually get on the plane, fold your stroller & leave it. (You'll see others.) They put them in the luggage compartment just before the plane leaves. When you exit the plane, it will be waiting for you. Where you left it, only in another airport.

It's great for keeping your carryon's ect & your child(ren) will be more comfortable. You don't have to worry about them running away.

If you won't need it at the airport I would definately check it through as checked baggage. If your child is younger and needs to use it in the airport esp if your lugging a carseat, daiper bag etc then I would suggest a gate check.

SWA does not count it towards your luggage and we just rolled the boys right up to the entrance of hte plane and then took them out. The flight attandants closed them up and stored them somewhere up front. When we departed they were right there waiting for us. It was so easy and convienent.

We flew USAir last November and took a stroller. You definitely roll it up the ramp and leave it just before you board the actual airplane. Make sure it is folded up and has a tag on it. It will be waiting for you at your stopover (if you have one) at which time you'll have to do the same thing when you make your connection.

One note, however, if you exit the plane quickly, do not be surprised if the stroller has not been brought up yet. That happened to us and I was very worried. Then, a baggage attendant said that he was bringing up the strollers as fast as possible so not to worry. Just make sure then you wait in the same area and do not exit the ramp.
