Stroller for 5yo what do think of this?

My ds is pretty durable and he will walk alot but realistically wallking ALL day for 6 days will exhaust anyone. i wish i could get a stroller for myself
and as tough as he is when he falls asleep dead weight is a killer!!!
i really don't want to rent and i was looking into purchasing a stroller anyway
i wanted to get opinions on this one

There are already a boatload of strollers at WDW....Maybe if your durable child gets that tired you should head back to the hotel?

When we took our almost 5 yr old to disneyland we brought our little umbrella stroller. It was great to put backpacks on and a chair when he was getting a little tired of the long walks sometimes between places. I say go for it!

The stroller looks nice, but the only thing I worry about would his feet dragging on the ground. My DD who is 3 sat in a Wrangler Double Stroller with my DD who is 2. My DD(3) is as tall as some 5 year olds and she would keep her feet on the foot rest most of the time, but some times she would get a cramp or forget to lift her feet. When she did that her feet would drag on the ground and she almost hurt herself. Just something to keep in mind.
This time I am renting a double stroller for the lenght of our stay. They seem to be better suited for her. We will see.

I appreciate you and the other the people who do!!! And I do whatever I can, to make sure that neither I, nor my wife and kids step out in front of anyone with a stroller! I see how difficult it is to manuever those through the crowds.

For last spring, we asked our 6yr old son if he wanted to sit in a stroller (umbrella), he said he didn't, but I didn't think he would be able to walk all that time without getting tired, so I brought it anyway. We were bringing one for my 4yr old daughter as well. Well, as much as he was a trooper, it was alot of walking and he got tired. So he reluctantly sat in it... but it definitely helped us to have it. Even six weeks ago when we went to Universal, we only took one stroller, but inevitably he succumbed to being tired (he's now 7) so we had to split time with my daughter. I would recommend taking it. Yes, he didn't really fit in the stroller, but it definitely worked in our favor having it.

Nice choice of stroller...only thing is the weight limit of your child may be a little much for that one. It says up to toddler years in discription. I would look into an umbrella stroller that reclines with a canopy if you have to have your own. (not exactly sturdy but a lot cheaper for the amount you will be using it) I have no qualms about sticking an older child in a stroller. Saves on hearing the whining about I am tired from both the parents point of view and those around the child. Yes there are ppl who are quite rude when it comes to pushing strollers but most of that can be attributed to distraction. THE OOH AND AHH factor. Why should someone whom this may be a once in a lifetime vacation (or like to get their moneys worth a.k.a. --cant afford more then one trip) spend about an hour or more in transportation time(waiting for buses, loading everyone on, walking to and from the stops, etc) just because their kid wants to take a little cat nap have to go back to the hotel? Also if you are staying off property this is not really an option.

We took our Maclaren for our then 7yr old DD. We did not intend to use it daily it went along as a "just in case" we were so glad we did. 2 days of our trip DD was having tummy issues and just didn't feel well. Out came the trusty stroller and because we had it with us we were able to still tour parks and when she got worn out she could sit and relax.

The only issue is with 60#'s of kid, it doesn't corner like it used to although it still did great.

We will be taking it with us again on this trip. We saw far older children in strollers all over the place. Who cares, keeping your kids comfy and happy is no one elses business.

The leg room may be a little iffy since it seems to come to a point where the feet rest. I would most certainly try it out in a store if at all possible before buying.

when they were 1 qnd 2 I took my own stroller. At 3 I told each that in order to go to Disney .... they had to walk !!! And they needed to start now in order to be able to do it when they got there. And you know what .... they did and that was the end of the stroller for both. It's amazing what kids will do if thay have to ....

This is so true, kids are resilient, they can put on a good show but if they really want something it can go down hill in a heart beat. Five year olds is still good stroller age, beyond that, they can walk, helps burn off the extra energy. Our son left the stroller at home at 6 and daughter did likewise. All their instructions were told at home and practiced even before thinking about Disney and were brought up to behave and have manners, thus were never any problem on vacations.

In their early years we used an umbrella stroller, cheap, easy to fold and push and we could see out ahead of the thing to not run over others, our trick was to put someone from our group out ahead of us and if anyone got run into or over, its was our people.

I took a stroller for my daughter in July 2004, she was almost 7. It is a lot of walking and at night when you try to leave the park when it is very crowded, it is so nice to know she is sitting right there and not lost in the shuffle. Also a great place to store your backpack. We wish we had a stroller just for that!

I went to kmart and bought a cheap $10. stroller, figured it had to last at least the 9 days we were there. We actually took it twice and never had a problem with it. And we sure saved a ton on stroller rental. Since it was cheap it was nice and light.

I'm thinking through the stroller issue myself. That one looks nice, but how big is your son? For about the same amount of $ you could get a Maclaren Volo, which gets rave reviews for older kids. I think I'd probably go with a Volo. You're right to wonder about snack trays--some of them don't come off. Our lightweight stroller would be perfect except that it doesn't have a detachable tray so our kids can't climb in and out of it.

And psssst: I don't think the OP was asking for opinions on whether or not her DS should be in a stroller.

We took our stroller in Sept. for my DD who turned 7 on the trip. Mostly I bring it for me so I don't have to carry everything. I wasn't raised using backpacks-we were able to leave all our things at school. So as a result, I hate to carry one! Luckily my DD is small for her age. About 43# and 44.5". Though, the stroller is getting a little hard to turn when she's in it, so unless she's really tired out, I have her walk (especially up hills!).

That being said, the few times I've had to carry her (when I didn't have the stroller) it only took about 10 minutes before my back was killing me. Maybe if I had a nice stronge DH to help out, but it's just me and my DM.

Anyway, I'm not looking forward to the time when we don't have the stroller-which will be any day now I guess we'll have to invest $$ in locker rentals then.

Oh and StanH, the only time I've every run into someone with my stroller was when they jumped in front of me and cut me off. And even then I usually can avoid them (though sometimes I just want to hit them) Thanks for not being one of those who cuts off strollers.

I think Disney has alot of mad stroller drivers there. I've been nicked in the heels many times!!

I wouldn't even think of a stroller for a 5 year old myself. I think at 3 my kids stopped riding in them. 4 tops. I took my DD a month before her 5th b-day and didn't use one and had no problems, but I suppose it depends on the kid. To me a stroller is downer and something to hold me back. We will have to take one this time as my youngest DD is only going to be 2. I hate the thought of taking it, but we have no option, and I have heard the Disney ones aren't all that great.
If you do get one, just be sure it is easily mobile, because if you have to fight to push it, it won't be worth having.

hence why i ignore those comments, to each his own if your kids are comfortable walking all day long more power to them, but i know my son and i know he won't make it all day for 6 days! if he falls asleep i have a place to put him in rather than throw him over my shoulder, and on crowed walks to the bus at the end of the night, i don't know about you but i like being able to know he is there in front of me, but again this isn't a post about whether he is "too old" or not, it's abouth your thoughts on this particular stroller, how did it become about his age i guess people just like to be outspoken even when their thoughts have nothing to do with the actual question being asked!

What kind or type of stroller did you use? My DS is 7 and he weighs 50 lbs even and he is autistic with low muscle tone from head to toe and just can't physically do it all day. We can't even walk through the mall for too long without trying lo LUG him out which at 50 lbs is HORRIBLE!!! I want to either bring a stroller with me or buy one once we get to Tampa which is where we will be for 2 days before our reservations at POP. Just cuious as to what kind of $$ I am going to have to dish out for this one time thing. I don't want to rent one since I don't want to ahve to wait in the long crowded lines and with my son being the way he is he can't handle the hassle with the crowd. and I thought since they are $10 a day to rent one then I didn't want to spend more to buy one then I would to rent one fore the 5 days we will be there.

Have you thought of getting a wheelchar instead? It may be easier to manuver with a 50lb child in it .I thought alot of strollers were mad for around 40lbs. I could be wrong though. But then he would have a little more "butt" room too.

I say do the stroller if it makes your vacation more manageable. If it is a burden on a day,dont do it the next. Or play it by park. MK is quite big compared to AK or MGM.

We went this summer with our whole family, my nephew is a little fellow and he is 5 and my daughter is 6--we did not say anything about strollers, we had decided that if they wanted one we would rent one and take turns----they NEVER mentioned it and we were at the parks from opening until 3 and them back again most evenings!!!!!

My DD6 and I went this past summer. She was 5 - only days from being 6 though....

I didn't take a stroller and didn't mention it....She was fine for LONG days the first few, but after a few she was dragging at the end of the day...

I promised her a stroller at Epcot (It's HUGE!)..And we rented one..but later on in the day....

It was nice to have it to put bags in too that day, but I wouldn't want to do it everyday...was a pain to park and enjoy.

But I would just make it whatever you want and judge your child....it's a personal decision.
