This is the first time the stroller has been an issue for us as our children are now officially too heavy for our City mini double. DS has some sensory issues and also is prone to migraines (his first ever, happened at 2 years old and was in the MK). He also is prone to systemic allergic reactions to environmental triggers (things like trees and grass pollen and sometimes I think he is allergic to his own sweat). He can break out in an itchy rash and is generally miserable.

In the past he has jumped back in the stroller and waited for the meds to work. If he has gotten a headache, he has gone to sleep and slept for sometimes a long time. These things tend to come on quickly and can be almost debilitating. My biggest fear is that it would happen at the back of the park and there would be no way to get him out. I can't carry him that far. He is 49 inches tall and weighs just over 50lbs.

One option is to take the double and just let one at a time ride. I really just need a good back up option for the one of 7 days we need it. Does anyone have a good alternatives or ideas?

I am renting the special needs stroller offered by kingdom strollers.

Depending on height, I think they have another option in the regular stroller category, which is less expensive.

if you have a shop in your town that sells medical stuff see if they have a special needs stroller. you can also call and see if they have a medical supply store in Orlando and see if you can rent the special needs stroller

Look for a McClaren special needs stroller. It will carry a person up to 100 pounds. They are expensive, but you might be able to find one on Ebay used, or at one of the rental companies.

Post 2 has information about renting equipment, including strollers.
There are some companies that rent special needs strollers.

You might also want to look into just renting a stroller at the parks. Post 2 has information about that and a picture of the double strollers for rent in the park. The singles look the same, just not as wide.
If you don't rent one and find you need one, you could have someone stay with him wherever you are and send someone else in your group to the front to get one.
If he needs to rest at First Aid, ask a CM if they can get a wheelchair or stroller for you to transport him there.

I agree with SueM -- if you only need a back-up for one day, the in-park rental of a double is likely your best option. If you might need the stroller for more days, consider an off-site rental of a special needs stroller; some of the standard stroller-rental vendors have a special needs stroller available as well, or some of the medical companies do. Links are in the disABILITIES FAQ sticky near the top of this forum. If you might want something for multiple trips/excursions and not just this vacation, you might consider purchasing as a PP suggests. We bought a used Maclaren Major Elite online for less than half the full price, since it is only used occasionally; but purchasing allows us to have it for other trips without finding a rental.

Enjoy your vacation!

How big is the other child? The limit on the citi mini double is 50lbs per side. My oldest is just 50lbs and about 49 inches tall and I still let him use it here and there.
