I would like some advice on the umbrella strollers for up to 50lbs. My son is five and average height (43 or 44"). Which brands/models offer length for bigger kids. He is skinny so I'm not too worried about weight, but I want him to be able to fall asleep if possible. We sat him in a Maclaren Volo and his head collapsed the back of the seat(head flopped back because his head sits too high). The Triumph was better for head support, but what other brands might work?

We have the Triumph & it works great. DD is 50lbs & 46 inches and still fits nicely in it and has fallen asleep several times after the fireworks at Disney.

You can usually find deals on older models. We purchased a previous year model at babydealz.com. I've heard albeebaby.com has some good deals too.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

We just ordered the Combi urban stroller. I will have it on the 10th of July. It has a high weight rating like the mclaren but it was on sale and someone told me it has a higher back for large children. My son is also 5. I can let you know and post some pics when it comes in this week if you want.

tinkerbell_1977,

I'd love to hear how it works out. I have until Oct. to find something, but I'd love to know what brands to watch for.

My 5 year old DS fits comfortably in his Mac Triumph. He is tall and skinny and his head doesn't hang over the top. He sleeps in it at WDW with it reclined with no problems. I really love this stroller!

My 5-year-old twins fit nicely with a lot of room to spare in our Baby Jogger City Series. It's not cheap, though, not sure what price range you are looking for. We have gotten our money's worth as we go to disney about 3x a year and also other vacations where the jogger comes in handy. The seats recline almost flat and the girls easily fall asleep in disney after the night shows.

Check out the Peg Perego P3. I went to a store an hour away and tried out the Mac's and the Pegs. My 4yr old niece, almost 5 is 43". I liked the P3 as she had lots of room in it. The Mac's were snug and not as high up (seat). She likes to dangle her feet and in the Mac she would have them on the ground or on the wheels. The P3 has a huge sun canopy and adjustable handles and two footrest positions. It doesn't hold as much weight (45lbs) as the Macs (55lbs) and it weighs a bit more. It reclines and also has a drink holder. If you decide on a Mac, the Volo doesn't recline.

She liked the P3 better.

Does anyone know the differences among the model years 2006, 2007, 2008 for the Maclaren Truimph?

We have a MacLaren Quest and it is fine for my 5 year old son who is 46 lb and 46 inches. He fell asleep in it fine.

We just bought a Baby Jogger City Series double for our 2yr old (35in) and 5 yr old (48in). We tried a bunch and this was the only one that our 5 yr old wasn't too tall for. Its wonderful! And a dream to drive!

Recently got a Baby Jogger Elite for my DD4 (40lbs and 42") princess: . It is great. She can lay back and be comfortable. It holds up to 100 lbs. I tried the Triumph and she was too tall. We are going to WDW in Oct and now feel better about DD getting more rest in the Baby Jogger than an umbrella stroller or the rentals. And I won't have to carry her when she gets tired :cool1:

Hope this helps. :upsidedow

My experience with a Combi stroller a few years back = the worst stroller I have owned in the past 18 years of kids. Maybe they have changed, but once DD was about 2 (and she wasnt a big kid) the stroller wouldnt push worth a darn. No one in the family- even the other kids- wanted to have to push it. I dont remember the model, just that it was not built very well. The frame was a cheap plastic compared to the very durable and sturdy frame thats on the Macs. We have a Volo and a Quest and love them both. Used the Volo for DD at Disney until she was almost 8 with no problems. Got the Quest after our last baby was born 9 mos ago because we needed one that reclilned. Love my MACS!!

Oh yeah- that seller's prices look great on that ebay link! I bought my Quest on albeebaby.com for $129 almost a year ago

My DD is 5 years old, weighs 45 pounds and is almost 45 inches tall (that's 75% for her age) and she fits in this stroller! I considered the Maclaren Volo which I had her sit in at the store, but the cover grazed her head. It also seemed pricey for a trip to WDW. I found the Combi on Walmart.com for around $67 and it's free shipping to the store. We put it together today and the only thing I don't like is that the cup holder needs the lap bar to be attached, but with the lap bar DD can't bend her legs to put feet on foot rest bar. Oh well, we don't need the lap bar and we'll manage without the cup holder. Other than that, the stroller has great features. The handlebar is nice and tall which is great for my very tall (6'10") husband. I've wheeled it around my house on hardwood floors and it seems like a smooth ride so far. We also really like the rain shield. It also has a mesh bag underneath where we can store ponchos, water bottles, umbrellas, etc. The cover is curved and the back seems a bit deep and slightly reclined so DD will not be bumping her head. It is a bit narrow, and with her big Sleeping Beauty dress on she might feel a bit squished, but she will appreciate the opportunity to rest her tiny legs nonetheless. When we return home I'll be able to take the stroller to the consignment shop or sell it on craigslist for at least half of what I paid, which makes it quite a bargain for our week long trip to Disney. Much cheaper than renting! Hope this helps!

We took our tall 5yo dd (over 44") around to try out various strollers before our last trip, and decided the most comfortable for her was a Jeep "pseudojogger" ie; it looks like a jogger, but they call it, I think, an "all terrain" or maybe "urban terrain" stroller, not a true jogger. It accommodated her length quite well, it reclined so she could nap, and the way the foot rest is configured allowed her to perch or hang her feet without touching the wheels or the ground. It has a nice-sized basket underneath, the handle is padded and a decent height, with a cupholder and a closing cubby for sunglasses, etc. We got the one without the music player, because it interfered with her head. It doesn't have as nice of wheels as the music player model, but the wheels held up just fine for our 3 week trip - and afterwards, not that we really use it at home, of course! It doesn't fold up nearly as small as an umbrella stroller, however it folds very easily with one hand, is not horribly large or heavy for the type of stroller it is, and we were able to maneuvre it onto busses, boats & monorails just fine. It turns & pushes very easily with a kid in it, also; I can push it with one hand. Just an all-around good value for what we paid. As I remember, we paid about $100 at Toys R Us online - way cheaper than renting would have cost us, so I figure if we never use it again, we got our money's worth.
