Stroller for 4 year olds

I have this one that goes up to 45 lbs. It's very light. It's a partially reclining umbrella type stroller w/ canopy. Perfect for WDW.

Last year my son was 3.5 and we used this stroller a TON. He actually took a nap in it every afternoon. I'm definitely bringing it again this year when he's 4.5. He'll probably walk more than last year, especially in smaller parks like DS, but he'll still need it.

We went last year with friend and had 2 girls 4.5 and one boy 2. All three enjoyed strolling althouh at home they never use one. All three of them fell asleep at the same time one afternoon and the two older girls never nap (nevermind in a stroller). I couldn't imagine my dd walking back to the car/bus after a long day at the parks.

I agree with a previous poster. I wish they made them for adults!!!

We bought a Maclaren Volo. It was cheaper then renting for the week and I can pass it to somone or sell it on Ebay.

I wonder how much easier it would be to navigate the parks without so many strollers? It's amazing to see all the "log jams" due to strollers. At least with people you can switch to 'single file' and get through. And curbs seem to be no problem on foot :goodvibes

My son will be almost 5 when we go in May and I am not taking a stroller. HOWEVER, my son is an avid outdoorman and has been known to hike more than 5 miles in a day without any problems. He wouldn't ride in a stroller if I paid him. :smooth:

I think if you are on the bubble, I would take it. It can't hurt.

My 6 year old also uses a stroller at WDW and DL. We accidentally left ours at home last trip and bought a cheap-o $19 Kolcraft from Toys-R-Us in Tampa and it was just fine. BTW, we usually have a rule that she can only use it at night or she would ride all day long. Lazy bum.

We have used a stroller almost every time we've gone. The double is great when little ones need a break. My sons (aged 7 and 4 at the time) would ride and eat or drink. It was a great place to stash souveniers while walking. Plus the kids have a great seat for the parades. The tops keep them shaded as well.

Like many others, we typically rent a double at the front gate of the park each day. The boys were 5 and 7 last year and by the end of each long, hot July day they were crammed in there together! It was too funny.

During the day, especially in the heat, they each "took breaks" in it once in a while.

You could always try the day without it and then if you find you need it hop back to the front gate and rent one.

I am bringing our Peg Perego Pliko for my 2 kids. My 2 year old will sit in it and my 4 year old can walk and step up on the back when she gets tired. If I find that she needs a stroller I will rent one. I really hate double strollers and I don't want one in case we have to split up. I hope my plan works out!

My girl just turned 4, our trip is in Nov. I am definitely taking her stroller, no doubt about it. Its either that or carry an extra 32 pounds around when she gets tired, which will tire me out fast too. Strollers for President!! :thumbsup2

My youngest was 7 before I stopped using a stroller....It was just easier to have her in a stroller vs trying to make her keep up with her siblings who were 6 yrs older...

I will be renting a double stroller for my 7 yr old daughter this July. She will last longer during the long days and we can put our stuff in it. :thumbsup2

I agree with the poster about how much nicer it would be without all the strollers. In fact it used to be nicer years ago when not everyone, only those with babies or toddlers had them. I have yet to understand why kids (not toddlers) don't have the same amount of energy that adults do and need strollered. Kids run non-stop in the summer all day I'd like to see an adult do that. I loved not having a stroller it was very freeing in the crowds and without the stroller you will be amazed how little you actually have to have and limit what you drag around the parks. We never even thought of bringing a stroller for our 5 yr old and he did fine from opening till 11 or 12 at night. If I can walk it they can to and why would I want to wear my self out more pushing some of these big kids at 40-50 lbs then I would be exhausted. If you don't bring one and they haven't used one for years how or why would they even know to ask for one? 4 is right on the edge, I know I wouldn't buy one special, if I had an umbrella one at home that I was getting ready to get rid of I may bring it.

My DD turned 5 during our last trip. I made my DH lug our "SUV" of a stroller all over he place and DD didn't sit in it at all. For the first 3 days we left it in the room. This trip he says we aren't even bringing it. I think what I will do this time is rent one at the bigger parks (EPCOT & AK). You really are the only one that knows your kids. Mine has more energy than the Energizer Bunny. She can usually out last her mom and dad!

Everyone's kids have different levels of energy. We used one for our 6 year old in Disneyland last month and will use one on our next trip this summer when she turns 7. She can't make it from opening till midnight ... or even 9PM. She zonks out around 8pm and she goes down hard. Awake to asleep *snap* like that, often at dinner curled up on a chair with her head in my lap. We would like the opportunity to see the fireworks or a late parade and the stroller gives us that opportunity.

Before anyone jumps to conclusions ... we *always* take an afternoon rest. Only my DD doesn't really rest. We have a nice swim and then we go to the room for a nap. While her dad and I try to nap she plays with her toys or watches TV. We can't get her to sleep during the day. Then, 8-9 PM comes around and *zonk* she's down.

That's why we bring a stroller for the evenings.

I rented one for my dd who was 5 at the time, I am planning on renting on again in Aug. she will be 7. I say go for it, if it helps the kids great, but lets face it parents they are great for us too!!!!

I am looking at double strollers now for our June trip for my 5 and 7 year old GC. They are small at 35 and 50 lbs. I hate to rent as we will be there for 15 days so that adds up to alot of money. Can anyone recommend the best kind to look at for that size child. Thanks :cool1:

YES, Rent or bring a stroller.

I rented a single at Epcot for my 8 and 5 DDs. We met my 8 yo friend who is 7 and they all wanted to go in the stroller that day. Too funny.

If they are only 4 I'd rent it at all the parks-- its also nice to have a place to put everything you buy and bring into the parks.
