After being so positive before I have since started to panic :(

I really didn't want to risk the dates. I was originally supposed to be flying out on the 2nd Dec one of the proposed days for the strike. However because I had booked my ticket using BA Miles I would only be guaranteed the next available flight if there were BA Mile seats available (restrictions, restrictions). And I have booked and paid for the Hoop Dee Doo Revue for the night of the 3rd and wouldn't fancy going to that straight off the plane and there might be delays.

Also if I cancelled my whole flight before 2 weeks of the departure date I would still be able to keep my miles, bearing in mind we are talking about 100,000 BA Miles I kinds didn't want to risk it.

Sooooooooo I cancelled my BA flight and I'm now going with Virgin a day before, which is great but it means that I'll be away from Paul for even longer now which is sad :( and I think he's a bit miserable but understands why I made the decision. And besides we can use the BA Miles for a holiday together next year- hooray :)

I really hope for others' sakes I've done this completely needlessly but I felt better to be safe than sorry and besides the fact that I have gone to all this trouble means that the strikes won't happen now (sod's law) so I would have done you all a favour.

I Need to change my hotel booking now.

I am glad you feel better about your decision Sam, I am sure everything will go OK for you :D

P.S Can't wait to hear about Hoop dee Doo

Unfortunately I booked before finding this site so its not just the flight I have with Virgin. I have checked with the Travel Agents and I can't change my booking :( As much as I would love to.

So I now have no choice but to wait. Hmm....

I've rung Virgin a couple of times and it seems to be head in sand tiem  I'm just not sure that if the airport has to totally shut for the day there won't be cancellations

Has anyone heard anymore news?

Jane

Well at least they are making provisions. Thanks for the info. But I'm scheduled to fly from Gatwick so I unless they change departure airport that doesn't help :(

Oh well these things are sent to try us

Exactly - what will be will be! Incidentally, I did hear that one of the two unions had agreed to meet next Wednesday with Acas to try to resolve the dispute. Hopefully the other one (TGWU?) will do so as well.

An extra day sounds good to me Sam! :)

Another one here with their fingers crossed that this planned strike doesn't happen. Thanks for the link Peebee

I'm hoping for everyone else's sake that my changing my flight may be the saving grace.....fingers crossed for you all :)

Latest update on this guys - BAA are meant to be holding talks with the two unions involved on Wednesday to try to resolve the problems. If you go to the BAA site (www.baa.co.uk) and click on the scrolling news banner mid-page it take you to the news article.

Fingers crossed they can work something out and save us all some aggro!

Good news guys - the unions have decided to suspend the first four strike dates after BAA made an improved offer to their workers. Unfortunately the 23 December is still on right now, but they will hopefully agree things finally later this week.

There's news about the story at http://www.reuters.co.uk/newsArticle.jhtml?type=topNews&storyID=1796200

Talk about lifting a big weight!! - we leave on Thursday and can really start to look forward to it all now :D

I'm really pleased for you Peebee - it's a great relief to know you can go ahead as planned :)

I'm really pleased for everyone flying on those dates :) I knew "my plan" would work. I'm actually really pleased I decided to swap though as I now have an extra day at WDW and I managed to save 100,000 BA miles and got a really good deal on my PE flight with Virgin so great news all around :)

I am glad i popped up in this board as I had no idea dates had been sorted out for the strikes.
Panic panic god we fly out on the 3rd and how close is that. I really thought with my luck they would pick that date. :bounce:
I feel a little relieved about that now, selfish of me I know but i have wanted to visit Orlando for over 10 yrs and now this may be my one and only chane to experience the magic and i would of been so devestated at losing my holiday.
i thank all oyf you for being informative and easing my mind a little.

Phew!

At last I can get into countdown mode!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Time for the lets see if we can get sense out of Jane at work this week.

They just don't get the Zip A Dee Doo Da Tip for Today mentality!! :p

I'm pleased to hear that the strikes are off for now!!!! I panicked and changed my plans which gives me 2 extra nights (at Royal Pacific Resort), and seeing as we were only going for 10 nights originally I'm glad I did it anyway.

Well done to all of you who kept your cool!!! I'm glad your plans are not going to be messed up!!!!

Debbie
