Strike info anyone?

The STCU covers many areas of WDW, including Housekeeping, Costume Characters, & Transportation. Over 22,000 workers. If there was a strike, who know how many people would not show up for work. 22,000 people strike? Not very likely. You might get 2,000 - 3,000 people strike - BUT that's very unlikely too. Unions in FL are not like Unions anywhere else. I doubt half of these workers even realize that they're represented by this union. I have heard rumors that they have a "labor task force" that would pull backstage personel to these front line roles. The problem with that - they are not trained for these roles. You're not going to let a secretary drive a bus, or a data entry clerk clean a hotel room (yes, there is specific traning and vaccinations to be a housekeeper). Disney would indeed be screwed if there were a strike. There was a housekeeping strike a few years ago at the Swan & Dolphin for like... 2 days. The housekeeping managers cleaned the rooms that day - I'm sure very limited service.

You have asked a question which there is no answer to. No one will be able to tell what's going to happen if there is a strike, because it has never happened before. A good guess? If the STCU were to go on strike, expect limited housekeeping services (clean towels & trash pick up only), limited transportation - longer waits for buses, maybe not so many characters in the parks.

"You can worry about many things, but not about water over the dam." Or in this case, there may not even be a dam on this river.

So, you're with the company all the way on this, huh? Is that because you think a $6.80 minimum wage is outrageous. I think it would be very hard to support one person, let alone a family on that. What is outrageous in my opinion is the over $500 million Eisner has made in the last few years and the $140 million in severance payments made by Disney to Mike Ovitz when he simply "didn't work out as President".

And, I don't blame workers for trying to protect their jobs from part timers who get no health care and benefits.

Sheesh!
I totally agree!!! That is not a living wage.

I apologize if anyone thought my post was insensitive to CM's. I have been a CM and I have also been in a union and I definitely think that the CM's deserve more than they're getting. I didn't mean to sound selfish, it's just that after rescheduling due to the hurricanes and a death in the family and medical conditions complicating the upcoming trip as it is, I was just terrified of something else going wrong. I'm going to be doing something on this trip to honor my grandmother's memory, so it is very important to me. My happiest memories of her are there and that is why I was kind of panicking over the idea of a strike after so many extensions happening to go on of all weeks the one we rescheduled for which doesn't look like it'll happen now anyway.

I didn't mean that they shouldn't try for better benefits, and if they did strike, I would support them. Even if it effected our trip. I was just surprised.

I wanted to clarify my other post in case any CM's were offended, I apologize.

Sheesh!

I make $7.15 an hour. It's not much.
