I went into the travel agents to pay off the rest of the hooiday and I asked about the euro exchange rate and how bad is it going to get, she said by summer it will be 1 euro per pound!!!!!

I am shocked, I am stressing I am probably going to need about £700 converted to euros now so the thought of the upgrade is out of the window.

I know I dont need that much but it is a birthday treat for my daughter i dont want to be scrimping and saving.

What exactly does half board plan get you? Could I save more by pre-booking and pre-paying for meals?

When i was in Post Office today someone was buying Euros and the exchange rate had dropped a lot since Tuesday when i picked up mine.

Why is it so low?

Tetley I really think the half-board pre-pay plan is going to get more and more popular, the lower the pound goes against the euro.
I've only been to DLRP for 3 days at a time, and I have a Dream Pass, so I get discounts on meals anyway. But if I were going for longer, and had the option of pre-paying for the half-board or half-board plus vouchers, I would do it.

I've been watching it for the last couple weeks and it peaked today at 1.28.

As soon as it hits 1.30 I'm getting most of my money changed *** that's the highest it will get. Don't use travel agents unless your dumb though, they take an insane cut, The Post office take nothing and tend to be the best bet.

I always use my Nationwide Credit card as that tends to get me a business rate commission free, for cash I use Mark & Spencers as they always have the best rate for me.

The Euro seems to have steadied out between 1.20 - 1.30. It is the world economy which is causing the problem. When I went to France last August I was getting a rate of 1.45 to £1.

I feel sorry for any Americans coming over to Europe as te rate for them is even worse:scared1:

thanks for the heads up about how bad its going to get. we went and got ours changed today for july!

I'm very sorry for you all...

BUT

for me that is good news! Maybe I'll be able to afford a weekend-with-musical in London this summer, woohoo!
When is the summer sales period in London???

Don't get me wrong but for me this is also good news: We are thinking now about a London Trip in September and maybe WDW for next year as the $ and the Pound is so low.
I am glad that the most European Countries have the Euro. For me it is very easy to be in France. If a meal is there 25€ I can easily compare this to a meal in Germany as we have the same currency.
The Euro was a brilliant idea and who would have thought that it would become so strong.

It is funny how the travel agent can predict the currency rates in the summer.

With such market skills she is wasted in the travel agents.

I thinks they are making up stories to push people into spending the same day with them.

Ooooh - good thinking. I bet that's it exactly.

It varies most sales periods tend to be at the beginning of the year & nearer Christmas. It will depend on how much people are shopping. If the shops aren't making much they may have a sale.

That is so true. TBH I have never got a good exchange rate from a TA whoch is why I go elsewhere & as I mentioned earlier it seems to have steadied off for the past few weeks. I reckon it may also improve a bit leading up to the summer holidays.

I used to work in banking and even we couldn't foretell the rates ~ we just used to open the Financial Times each morning!! ;)

Oh, so there are no "organized" sales?? :(
In Belgium it's from January 3-January 31 and from July 1/2-July 31.
Usually, in France it's a little later than in Belgium.

Afraid not, but if the economy continues the way it is in the UK I imagine some of the shops will be having sales.
