Stressing out- August or October

We are currently scheduled to go Oct 14-22 which would mean that my DD would miss 7 days of kindergarten. We have considered shortening our trip and leaving on Oct 16 so she would only miss 5 days.

Our only other option (due to the nature of DH's job) is to go Aug 18-26. I know that it would be hot, humid, and probably rainy. So, I am having a hard time deciding which is the lesser of two evils- missing school or worse weather.

I keep changing my mind and cannot consentrate on anything else right now. I need some outside perspective/advice. Thanks!

I wouldn't hesitate to take a child out of kindergarten! I took my kids out up until dd13 hit middle school. Now, if I had a child struggling in the later elementary years, I might not, but I can't imagine how many kindergarten students are behind the second month of school! I don't even think kindergarten is mandatory?

October is our very favorite time to go!!! I would check the school's excused absence policy before making a decision. In our area, the kids can miss 5 days for a family vacation and still be excused. We have taken our kids out of school all during elementary school, and never had a problem. She's certainly miss instruction while she's gone, but unless she's struggling, it shouldn't be anything that you can't catch up with at home. We just switched to summers this year because ds is in middle school now.

You will accomplish a lot more with fewer crowds in October. You can enjoy the MNSSHP!!! Even if you have to shorten your trip so she only misses 5 days, I would still go with October.

Don't stress,go with your Oct plan. My DD missed 5 days of kindergarten this year and she is doing great. Oct is a great time of year to go make sure you go to the MNSSHP. Enjoy!

OCTOBER!! I wouldn't stress, she'll be fine. I wouldn't take my child out for the 1st week of school, but other than that at that age, she'll be fine!

Kindergarten is no biggie. We took DS out till 8th grade and it was worth every day missed. August dates, everyone will not be back in school yet so crowds will be up and it will be HOT.

Thanks!!! I called the school and they said there would be no problem with her missing as long as it was not for more than 10 days. So, I think we will probably stick with October- I was really excited for MNSSH Party.
